Had my 28week bloods back today and revealed low iron levels. Which explains the fatigue and extra weight gain! Has anyone else had to go on meds? If so, how long does it take to get levels and energy back up to normal again?

Hi Cassie, I had this at the 28-week appointment. Starting taking iron tablets every other day as prescribed and just had my 32-week appointment today, they’ve taken my bloods so waiting on results now. I work in healthcare so I tested my own bloods about 2 weeks after and my Haemoglobin had already gone up so that was reassuring for me at least. I would advice adding more protein and iron rich foods to your diet alongside the medication and vitamin C within the diet helps with absorption, that’s what I recommend to clients and I’ve been doing this too.

I’ve been taking ferrous fumarate tablets since I was 16 weeks pregnant. I’m now 32 weeks pregnant and my levels are still low so I think they’ll be low my whole pregnancy 🥲 it’s horrible being exhausted all the time x

Following as I’ve just been prescribed iron too! Already constipated and apparently it backs you up 🥹😭

I’m constipated and haven’t even started my meds yet 🙈
Have they given you lactulose or anything?

definitely going to try and change my diet over the next few weeks, hopefully that will help 🤞🏻

oh no, poor you! It certainly does explain the exhaustion! I didn’t realise it caused weight gain too, I’ve been so upset about being larger and puffy! Hopefully that will level out now also 🤞🏻

I was also told I had low iron after my 28 week appointment, I got tablets to take once a day, I then had my 32 week appointment which they re tested my bloods and my irons levels had gone up and was just okay! But I’m still to take the tablets till the end of my pregnancy just to ensure my levels stay up! xx

I've just been prescribed iron tablets. Have to take them twice a day. I have loads of orange juice with them & I also eat a lot of prunes to keep me regular, if that helps! I've been taking them for about a week & I honestly feel better already. Hope its not placebo effect 🤣 x

yeah I’m on day 3 of lactulose, actually pooped this morning though not quite the ‘clear out’ I was hoping for 😂

It's taken me 4 weeks of taking then to ever so slightly start getting my energy back, had more energy today than I've since my iron levels dropped. And started taken them about 4 weeks ago.

I found it impossible to get the iron tablets prescribed so I'm taking iron tablets from Holland and barret 15mg and still my anti natal vitamins and taking spatone water 5mg which all together add up to similar amounts as the prescribed tablets but are easier to digest. And then trying to change my diet to include more iron rich foods but its hard when my nausea has come back and I feel full all the time.

I had to take them throughout my whole pregnancy with my first born and now currently 28 weeks pregnant and have had to take them again through this one too 🙃 had my levels checked again last week and still have low iron. X

yes they made me throw up immediately! I’ve switched to spatone liquid iron you can get it on Amazon x
