Switching from bf to formula advice

My boy has been exclusively breast fed since birth he’s 18 weeks and want to move him on to formula now,
Has anyone else done this and what did the process look like for you?
Taking to a bottle isn’t an issue as he’s drank my pumped milk before but just wondering is it a gradual change or straight swap and just pump for comfort?
Also if it’s a gradual change what feed did you swap first etc?

You’d want to gradually change so you don’t end up with mastitis and engorgement, you may struggle avoiding it with a pump since you are EBF. You’d likely find it easier too, pumping is a ball ache

Yes I did exactly the same I ebf and gave expressed milk in a bottle before bed. So this bed time feed was the first one I changed from breast milk for formula. Did this for about 2 weeks then started to introduce another formula feed around lunch time. Then a week later gave 2 day time bottles plus the night one. That was about a week ago and now baby is having formula for every feed. The only time I'm breastfeeding her is during the night if need be and then very first thing in the morning. I've done it gradually and you could do it quicker if you want just whatever works for you!

I've used Kendamil and its been fab, baby took to it straight away and hasn't had any problems at all. I only pumped when I felt my boobs were engorged and I would usually just feed it back to her in a bottle anyway so it didnt go to waste at some point during the day (like a top up feed) as it wasn't much maybe only around 2 or 3 oz. She loves having a bottle now and is a very happy content baby!

Hi, we've done exactly the same. My baby always had a formula bottle to sleep from about 8 or 9 weeks, and it took me 3 full weeks to transition through exclusive bottles.
I didn't get engorgement or mastitis as it was super gradual and smooth.
My baby did get constipation though, once fully transition for about 2 weeks he'd only poop once every 3 days. It's all back to a least one dirty nappy a day.
For me was easier to breastfeeding during the night, so I started dropping the earlier evening feeds first.
Eg. He already had the 11pm bottle
Then I introduced the 7pm one, 3 days later I introduced the 4pm, and so on.

I've left 3 days in-between dropping feeds to bottle so he wouldn't feel it too much or my breasts.

Good luck xx

My baby is 16 weeks and we've just switched , I started gradually over about 2- 3 weeks , replacing feeds with a bottle and then we went down to just feeding at night if he needed to. He slept through last night so assuming the night feeds will be gone too. X

We did gradual, added one bottle at a time into a pattern around her general feeding times.
I phased each additional bottle over 3 days so one bottle at 7am on Monday, by Thursday I did one bottles at 7am and one at 4pm. I didnt add the next bottle in which would be 10am for example, to avoid engorgement so my breasts were comfortable as I phased it out. Does that make sense? I had to write it down so I didn't forget. All in all it took about 3/4 weeks but I didn't have any pain x

Exactly same as so it seems 🙂

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

Combi feeding advice

Has anyone gone from EBF to combi feeding? Currently do one bottle of EBM per night and they one half formula half breast milk mixed in the day. The other times she still feeds on me. Ideally I want to feed all day via bottle and all night with breast. She’s 7 weeks and takes a bottle well, how long should I leave it before adding another bottle to her daily routine?

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰
