Childcare problems for during c-section birth

Stressing out…!

My daughter is going to be 20 months at date of c-section. Her grandpa has kindly said all along that he would really like to look after her at time of birth of baby.

Not much to do on the day, just get her ready & drop off at nursery which is a 5 min walk away and open 8am-6pm. (We will need to be at hospital at 7am on the day). My husband is planning to dash back home to do her nursery pick-up, tea and bedtime, before returning to the hospital for the night to be with me and newborn as I recover from c-section.

Her Grandpa has now dropped the bombshell that even though she sleeps through the night and all along he has asked to look after her, that he wants my husband to be at home at night ‘incase she wakes’. For context, the hospital is just a 15 minute drive from us & it was always planned with grandpa that my husband comes back to the hospital after getting her down for the night.

Basically, I’m now stressing that I’m going to be on my own in hospital with newborn recovering from c-section with little to no support while my husband is at home on the off chance that my daughter wakes during the night.

What to do?!

It's not often that partners are able to stay overnight on the wards anyway. He would likely be allowed there for the birth and a few hours after. My husband was asked to leave once visiting hours were over. I've never known anyones partner to stay with them for the night post-birth personally. Even after a c-sec x

Afraid I disagree with you…
I personally don’t know of anyone who stayed in hospital without their partner after giving birth, unless at the height of covid.

All partners were allowed to stay overnight when I had my first 20 months ago… They even have reclining seats next to every bed, specifically for partners to stay.

I’m guessing it’s down to the hospital you went to/or maybe things have changed since you had yours 6 years ago. X

Not sure if you're in the UK or not but I suppose it can differ anywhere. Area to area. I'd have a chat with your midwife though to be certain he's able to stay with you so if they do ask him to leave, it doesn't come as too much of a shock or make you feel distressed

Yes UK based and yes, partners definitely can stay overnight at our hospital (for as long as you are there - was there for 4 days with first).

From hospital website ‘A single visitor can be with you 24 hours a day on the postnatal ward if you wish.’

Seems fairly standard in our area. x

I’m currently in hospital in the maternity ward until baby comes now and my husband (birthing partner) can stay 24/7. There’s a chair that reclines really well and he’s slept on it for 5 nights so far!

What I would say is that my sister was in a similar position when her 2nd was born 7 years ago and hubby wasn’t allowed to stay. The midwife’s were great and made sure she had the button to call them and they helped her through the night. Just tell them how nervous you are of being on your own and they really will look after you. 💞

Our hospital doesn’t allow overnight guests, nor the one my friend had her c-section at. I have heard from friends that the midwives were on hand and when they buzzed for the baby the be handed to them in the night for feeds or comfort, they came straight in and helped completely. As others have said, speak to your midwife and explain the situation and ask how they can give support to you overnight if you’re by yourself. I’m sure they won’t leave you struggling. X

That is good that your hospital lets partners stay all through the night but it really isn’t the norm! They aren’t allowed at my hospital and when I had my first in January last year I had a C-section really late in the day so I was still totally numb when it was night and my partner had to go home. The midwives just helped out it really wasn’t an issue.

My boy is 20 months and I’m also UK.

My partner was allowed to stay 24/7 and we were in hospital for 4 weeks altogether. So it definitely does depend on the hospital.

It’s a scary thought to be left alone but you will have all the experts on call to help you with anything you or your baby need, especially if you’re recovering from a c-section.

I bet it’s quite daunting for grandpa to have your daughter overnight. Would he consider calling your partner if your daughter wakes and struggles to go back down? Given he could be there to help within 15 mins? And if not he can be at the hospital? X

We decided that my OH would go home and be with son for the night and return after morning school run. Honestly was absolutely fine, the team were on hand if ever I needed anything. Baby was either on boob or asleep, and catheter was in so he wouldn’t have been much use. I’d say it was even better, and he wasn’t tired and miserable for me next day. Also hes still not over that night in the chair the first time 🤣

My hospital only allows partners to stay for a few hours post c section and during normal visiting hours on the post natal ward. Only in exceptional Cory stances to partners stay overnight after delivery so I’d check that x

I was by myself overnight with my little one after an emergency c-section. The husband went home, and it wasn't that bad. Nurses were always there to help. I used to ask them to hand baby to me to feed as I couldn't lift him
I wouldn't stress too much about being by yourself.
I'm currently expecting no2 via a csection soon, an the husband will go after to pick little one up fro the nursery and stay overnight.

They didnt ask my mum to leave but she done being with me after ive had my son was 25 hours of labour so i understood her being tierd she came just after lunch for a bit then left a again i think on my ward there was only 1 husband that stayed over night to be with his new famliy all others had to leave. But all the nurses was ok and helped when the others asked for it

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

I have a feeling like I might get attacked from this but I’m going to say it anyways. incognito 🥸 GLP1s being mainstream for regular people who are NOT diabetic or morbidly obese is bad for so many reasons 💉💉💉

Side affects, long term dependency, supply shortages and costs, regaining the weight back as soon as you get off them.. all that ASIDE how do people not see just from a zoomed out perspective how crazy it is. I can’t imagine being someone facing food insecurity in an underdeveloped country and watching westerners give themselves daily jabs so they can lose weight while still eating a calorie surplus/ crappy foods. It’s giving hunger games when district 12 Katniss finds out at the party at the capital that people eat and then take a pill to make themselves sick so they can 🤮 and eat some more. These ads running ozempic everywhere are disgusting, and then getting amazing athletes like Serena Williams to push them talking bout “i’ve never been healthier” girl you were an OLYMPIC athlete wym??

Getting pregnant after c section

When did you get pregnant again after a c section? Our plan was always to have 2 under 2 but that is now out the window because I had an emergency section. I know they say 18 months and we will be sticking to it (as much as I don’t want to) but I’m curious how quickly you got pregnant after your section?

Movements

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had loads and loads of movements but today I have only felt small flutters and a couple of kicks throughout the day. I get so confused as some people say they don’t have a pattern but others say they do. We have a Doppler so used it this evening and could hear the heartbeat and then moving but does anyone else get quieter days of movement than others? I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will check but just find myself getting anxious about it and don’t know when to get checked. I know they encourage it but last time as soon as I got to triage baby started moving loads!
