Baby is due in a couple months and having spoken to some new mum friends.. I’ve been thinking about how I’d want to feed baby.
Initially, I was very pro pumping exclusively and feeding breast milk via bottles but I’ve heard it’s really exhausting and full on- pumping the milk, freezing and then preparing milk and bottles etc.
Plus I also want to involve husband in the feeding. Most important thing is baby being fed, and I would love for baby to have breast milk.
I’m now thinking one of the 2 options below, and would like to hear experiences and thoughts if you ladies have done these and how you found it:
Option 1: Breastfeed during day and do some pumping so hubby can also give baby some feeds in evening/ night
Option 2: breastfeed and formula feed together (not sure if this can even be done??)
Open to other ideas/ suggestions.

All journeys are different but option 1 is good and pretty popular. I did this but actually in the end gave up bottles all together because once my husband was back at work and baby was more efficient with feeding it was just less effort to not sterilise and pump. Plus when we had chunks of terrible sleep it was easier to cosleep and breastfeed. However it can be really handy! On the other side, the first 6 months go so quickly that your husband can help with weaning and feeding then 😊
Combi feeding is also really popular and can work well for a lot of families. I would recommend to not overthink it all though and start by breastfeeding and then go from there depending how you feel. Don’t feel pressured to do any specific thing or that it has to be either/or! X

I'm planning on exclusively breast feeding for the first 6 weeks or so and then start pumping a bit so that partner can take over some of the feeds (1, maybe 2). However I am keeping a super open mind about it as I know if I get too fixated on a plan I will be disappointed if it doesn't work out for whatever reason.
I've had friends who did one Formula feed a day so that partner could do it and that worked well for them. Some babies are super fussy and won't take Formula/bottles at all, or really like the bottles and stop taking breast. I'm going to see how exclusively breast feeding goes and then make a plan from there!

Your 2nd option is totally possible, my sister has done that with her youngest. You'll want to play it by ear though as every baby is different. I was all for pumping at first, but ended up exclusively breastfeeding til my lo self-weaned at 1 year.

My LO struggled to latch as he had a tongue tie so we did a lot of BF using nipple shields what I could then topped up with formula. You’ll work out what works for you. I got myself so stressed out as he struggled to feed and was pumping but it’s time consuming and it was affecting my mental health whilst trying to look after a newborn. Do what works for you and your family at the end of the day. As long as baby is being fed he or she won’t care how!

I was trying to breast feed & pump, but then my supply dipped. So I was breast feeding, topping up feeds with formula & pumping. In the end it was all too much, bubs is now fully formula fed & my mental health is a lot better. Do what works for you 🤍

I exclusively breastfed for almost 4 weeks but had to switch to combi feeding due to latch issues & vasospasms/Raynauds. I pump now & we work on 75% expressed breastmilk and 25% formula. I probably could go solely breastmilk but the formula just enables me to keep a decent supply. Pumping is a lot & can be restrictive but it is worth it x

One thing to keep in mind is to be flexible. You can even do a mixture of all 3, or different combinations for different months and at different stages/ages for your baby. Totally up to you and what ends up workin best for your family.

It'll depend on your body and how you feel but all of them are good options. I breastfeed the first 6 months and did a combo of breastfeeding and pumping when I went to work and then my milk started to decrease so I breastfed and supplemented with formula.
