My baby was 8lbs and predicted big the whole pregnancy, he was on the 90th centile,
I am 5ft 6 and only 8stone 3, should I have been told to have a c section instead of having a natural birth?
He got stuck and I can’t help but think it could’ve been prevented?

Hindsight is magical but something that only occurs after the event. Obstetrics & the pathway is something which is impossible to foresee, you’re in natures hands. Even with all of todays technology, that’s why some women can be 10cm dilated but need an emergency section.
Your pelvis typically does expand enough to allow baby to come out, obviously isn’t the case all the time. I would recommend a birth reflection, this way you can ask this & get the answer you’re looking for.
I had one & it really has taken my birth off my mind & given me and answers (and the apologies) I was looking for. Typically they’re with an experienced midwife :).
Hope your little love & you are doing well & you’ve both been offered support. Sending love ❤️

I have had a shoulder dystocia and he was 7lb 14 I am 5 foot 1 and there is never any way to predict these things unfortunately they don’t know until the baby is trying to come out it can be a lot of factors I went natural with my second after this and he was predicted to be bigger I had emergency c section for other reasons but he would’ve been stuck to due to his position don’t put it on yourself it’s something that no one can be prepared for and it’s more common than everyone realises definitely do birth reflections it helped me to understand it more x

Hi my baby was 9lb 2 and same thing happened they give me option of c section or induction as they knew lo would be big but they would not advise either way they told me risks of both and it was my decision. I think birth reflection is a good idea as Tanya mentioned above I have requested one but not heard back hope you’re both okay x

I don't think so, they couldn't have predicted that would happen and from what you've described, medically a c-section wouldn't have been justified.
I think either way you feel something may have been prevented when you have a traumatic birth or something doesn't go as you plan. My first was 7lb11, I had my waters popped and induced sooner than I needed to be really from what I've learnt afterwards and I ended up having an emergency c-section and it was awful for lots of reasons. I was angry for years, thinking how it probably wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been induced and I should have spoken up and requested XYZ.
I ended up feeling really very depressed for a long time, and when I finally accepted that it's just the way it happened and nothing can be done now, I felt so much lighter.

I've had 2 shoulder dystocias my 2nd baby and my 4th. Size is a risk factor but I don't think an 8lb baby is high risk. Mine were 9lb 11oz and 10lb1. I'm only 5ft 1. I think it's just one of those things unfortunately. I was told 1 in 10 chance of it happening to me again. My youngest is 4 months now and I'm still traumatised from the whole birth experience. I can't talk about it very easily and it makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it.
do you just ask your midwife to talk it through? I didn’t even know the emergency buzzer had been pressed due to shoulder dystocia until I read my notes. I had my eyes shut the whole time I don’t even know why I think I was just too high on the gas and air, I was refusing to take it out of my mouth so they had to put me on a drip 😂😂

I saw the infant feeding team lady & she referred me. You may be able to Google your hospital & birth reflection to get a number or their website page. You could ring maternity ward & ask for the right number for the birth reflection service. Hahah, I don’t blame you.. I refused to get off the toilet because it was cold 😂. I had to wait a few weeks for the appointment but they allocated 3 hours to talk through it with my notes :)x
I feel the same people keep asking me when I’m having another and my current reply is I’m not, I don’t know what I expected but it wasn’t that. I’ve never felt pain like giving birth I literally screamed the place down the whole 7 hours after they broke my waters 😖
I had no idea what shoulder dystocia was until I seen it in my notes and googled it afterwards 🙈🙈
