Does anyone track their breastfeeds ? If so how many minutes a day does your baby breastfeed for ?

I do and it's quite laborious tracking! But then when it comes to the next feeding time, I love having the previous feed time at hand to know how long it's been and if his cries are likely to be for feeding or something else. If I see he's lasted more than the usual 3 hours between feeds then it pleases me.
In terms of minutes, I've finally gotten into a pattern of roughly 20mins on one side and 15mins on the other.
In the first 3 weeks it was much messier; only one side per feed, lasting about an hour since he would fall asleep a lot and I wasn't doing the C-Hold so it was slow. I now think that a lot of that time was not actually drawing milk out, I think he was just sucking for comfort.

And you?

I have a notes document on my phone, I note down time, side and length of feed, and any other relevant information.

I use the huckleberry app to track feeds. It's really easy, you just push the button at the start and end of the feed and it records it. On average, she's feeding for around 2 hours a day and her feeds are typically around 10-15 mins long

I use the babycare app because it tracks feeds as well as nappy changes and when they are awake and fall asleep

I use huckleberry and find it quite easy. I also track nappy changes. And then will use it for naps when he’s a bit older x

My girl feeds for 7 hours a day on average 😅 I assume because she’s in her cluster feeding stage. Before that she was averaging about 4 hours a day. She’ll be 3 weeks in a couple of days and so I’m hoping the breastfeeding frenzy will subside soon.

I use Baby Feed Timer app. It’s free for 7 days but then £10 after that. But it’s so worth it. You can track feeds, bottles, nappy changes, sleep, when you express etc. just have to press L or R when you start feeding and can pause it or just press the opposite when you switch sides. I love it because it tells you how long between feeds, how long each feed lasts and also how long on each side if you need that info. It does a lot more than I use it for like analysis etc but I’m more than happy with what I use it for. My boy is 4 weeks tomorrow and averages about 10 hours feeding in 24 hours. I have noticed he’s starting to have shorter feeds this weekend though so hopefully that’ll continue x

Glad you asked this question, I've googled it a few times... what is normal
My baby is a month old today and she's anything from 6-8.5 hours in 24 hrs x
I use huckleberry to track feeds. I’m combi feeding with formula but my baby will breastfeed 2-3 hours in 24 hours. Reading these comments it’s so varied. I wasn’t sure what was a ‘normal’ amount of time xx

@Hannah I use the same app. I can't imagine not tracking as my brain does not hold information at the moment I would just not remember when and how long otherwise. My LG is 17 days and on average feeds for about 3 hrs a day in 10-15 min usually one side sessions.

I did for 4 weeks with feeding and changing but now I’m happy I can instinctively know if she’s hydrated with nappies and feeding ok I’m focusing on tracking naps as I was letting her get overtired and want to improve her sleep overnight. It was too much tracking all 3 for me

I use Nara Baby app to track my baby’s feeds and nappies. They got so much more like tracking naps too and it’s ad free
