Induction UCLH experience

Hello Louma, firstly congratulations! I was induced at 39 weeks as I also had GD, although mine had to be controlled by meds. Firstly the staff are lovely and put you at ease. I tried to brave it without the epidural, but the pain was too much for me. I ended up having an emergency c-section, which went well. I'm also epileptic. X

I had a really good induction experience with them. I was induced at 38 weeks and the process was real smooth and quick and staff was lovely! I was able to have a natural and normal delivery and was given pethidine when the pain was too much to rest. I had the 6hr gel and only needed 1. My partner could stay until the end however one thing I would say is that they are not equipped to have partners stay with you. My partner had to sleep on a hard plastic chair the first night until they found a reclining one. They are not given any food and yours isn’t big enough to share and they don’t have any toilets to use on the ward, they have to go outside to the public toilets. Wish I knew all these things about the maternity ward before my stay as it was the only negative experience. Directly after birth my gf had a shower after me since she was staying the whole time and wouldn’t get another chance to wash once we moved.

If I had another, id go back but armed with the information I now know.

I travelled 40 minutes just to use them too!

So how long did you stay in hospital ?

I was also induced there and ended up having an emergency C section, I think lots of inductions end this way so be prepared that could well happen. The recovery from the operation was fine for me and I was only kept in a couple of nights. One thing I regret is not asking for someone to hold the baby on me immediately after the C section. The epidural made me shake really badly and my arms were under the tent so I wasn't in a position to hold him properly myself, but I wish I had thought to ask my partner to hold him against me so we could have had skin to skin earlier.

I was induced at 42 weeks.

I was there for 3 and a bit days. We showed up at 10pm on Wednesday and he arrIved at 10:38pm Thursday, he needed to stay for 24hr observations because I had strep B and we left Saturday night. The maternity ward ask everyone if you want to go home non stop so providing you’re ready and all is well, they are willing to let you go home.
