Has anyone went into labour on their own after cervidil softening

Yes, that is what happened to me. When they inserted it, within 2 hours I was contracting heavy but I still had to get my water broken & start Pitocin because I was slowly dilating.

@Danielle they still made you take pitocin?! :(

My friend went in for induction, received 3 doses of cytotec (another cervix softening medication) and never had Pitocin. Had her baby 12 1/2 hours after her first dose! The nurses and doctor were a little shocked because apparently it doesn’t happen too often like that

Cervidil caused me to have contractions when I went to be induced, my labor started with the cervidil and then the pitocin increased it :)

@Evon do you know how effaced u were when you went in to get the cervidil? How long did it take for contractions? (If you remember) lol

I was effaced I think 1? I don’t remember exactly but I wasn’t dilating but I was effaced, my contractions started maybe an hour after getting it placed. I was in labor for 28 hrs tho

I did! About 45 minutes after they removed it, I started having contractions naturally and was only in active labor for about 8 hours

Yes! This happened to me. They gave me cervidil and approximately 30 min after having it placed I started contracting on my own, to the point my contractions were back to back. Other than my doctor breaking my water, I never had any other meds or anything to help the process along!

Hey, I was induced using cervidil with my first. My contractions came naturally but because they weren’t getting closer on their own, I was later hooked up to and given pitocin. I believe that was done sometime after my waters were broken.

I honestly don’t think pitocin is bad but some people hate it.

I believe I was about 50-70% effaced (I don’t remember exactly) and not dilated at all. As soon as I was able to, I walked around which really helped keep my contractions going!

This happened for me! My midwife put the cervidil in at 6pm, went home and woke up to contractions at 4am. I had the foley bulb first which passed in under an hour so I was 3.5cm already but no sign of labour at 2 weeks late. I removed the cervidil at 6am, midwife broke my waters at 8:30am and I had my daughter at 7:15pm. No pitocin needed.

@Sarah they let you go home with cervidil? Did you have to stay 2 hours after it was placed or they just let you go right after?

I got to go home right after. They monitored baby for 30 minutes before and I can’t recall, I maybe had to stay for 30 minutes after to keep monitoring but it definitely wasn’t two hours. It could have been because I had a midwife so I was allowed to leave, not sure how it works if it’s an OB.

sounds right they let me go home too after 1 hour!
