Baby crying

Hi everyone i have a 3 week almost 4 week baby boy I don’t want to be judged for doing it but would it be bad to put the baby in his room for one hour so we can get sleep cause he won’t stop crying no matter what we do and we don’t know what to do any more

I'd say absolutely if baby is 5mo+, baby is happy/ content in themselves all day, normal poops, & no fever lol. I think that's all of them🤣❤️ bless you, sometimes they need to cry. You can also do the 10-15-30 min rule I went by from Supernanny. I played one episode bookmarked, where she's helping a mom put their baby down for the night. Is babies schedule 6am wake-7/8pm bed?? That might help. If baby is under 7-8mo old you can also do 2 naps a day stopping the first at 1 hour seeing how he does then 2nd will be an hour or 3 from that one & long (2-3 hours) some babies benefit from 1 hour nap am & 1 hour nap pm. They are all their own unique hoomans. You got this❤️ you know what's best & they need to know they are safe in their sleep space. He will put himself to sleep eventually & this will go on for 4 nights to 2 weeks total of baby crying at bedtime. Xoxo

I don’t know what country you are in I know not everyone gets annual leave, but if you’re partner can take some time off work even a few days you could take shifts over night. Me and my partner sometimes do it where one of us does 9pm- 2am and the other one does 2-7am so we at least get a chunk of sleep, or could take turns taking on a night. I’m not judging at all but a baby this little does need night feeds so I don’t think leaving them for a whole night would be okay personally. Do you have any family that could help out a bit? I definitely napped a lot during the day when my lo was 3 weeks old too x

After 30 min go back in 10 min later, eyes shut, lights off, white noise on. You can start playing white noise around 6-7pm so they get sleepy, lights off/ one night light on in living room. Keeping your eyes shut as much as you can makes them know it's bedtime and we don't talk lol. Shush that baby, the initial lay down you shh shh I love you baby" whatever you're willing to say🤣🫣 2nd time 15 min mark you go in and place your hand on baby making the shush noises but it's brief like 1-3 minutes total. 3rd time 30 min you don't touch baby just shhh, shhh shhh shhh. You can even opt to rock baby until drowsy for the first lay down. Expect 4 visits & baby will go to sleep.

Yes, it would be bad. Your baby still thinks you’re *one* person right now. A brand new baby is quite literally relying on you for everything at this early stage, not the least of which is comfort.

Avatar

I completely understand where you’re coming from, a crying baby is exhausting! Putting him in his own room may not benefit you though, he can sense when you’re there and will most likely be really unsettled on his own, so you’ll end up waking up to comfort him anyway. He’s brand new and this screaming stage isn’t forever. Do you have a family member or friend that could come round to feed/ change for a few hours in the day so you can catch up?

Avatar

We put the baby in his own room when he was a week old and he has been in there since. But we would go in and take care of him when he cried. We would change his diaper feed him and rock him back to sleep. This whole process took about an hour. Than he would wake up in 2 hours and we would do it all over again. We made sure to talk in soft quiet voices and not turn on to many lights. We wanted him to know that it is bed time and he went back to sleep quickly most of the time.

Avatar

That phase is rough but it doesn’t last forever! Before you know it he will be sleeping 5 hours straight and you’ll wake up checking on him. I would try to take turns with your partner or see if someone can come help for a night while you catch up on sleep.

We used a white noise machine and a swaddle. We would also try to dress him appropriately for the temperature we had set in the house. We had the temperate at 69°-71° and he wore footed pajamas with a swaddle. He won’t sleep if he is to hot.

You can also try to talk with a sleep consultant.

I hope all of that helps!

Oh I forgot you can also try the 5 S’s! That worked wonders for us!!

If you want my honest opinion. I do think it would be bad. He’s not crying to be difficult he truly needs something even if it’s comfort and putting him to cry by himself in a room far from his only comfort will be even more traumatizing. He is scared. This is alll so new to him. Take turns sleeping some stretches. But I wouldn’t even do this until 5/6 months. They rely on us for literally everything and at this age it’s not behavioral he wants you.

Avatar

Not judging but absolutely bad. Your baby needs you. Learn the crying ques. Not all crying is the same thing. Has he ate, how much, diaper changed? Gassy? Needs to burp?!
The first month is the hardest. At that stage crying it out would only aid in trauma ( from what I’ve read )

Avatar

I think it would be bad to do the entire night in his room crying. When we had bad nights, my partner would do 11pm - 3am with the baby while I sleep and then we would swap.

If it’s getting bad it’s okay to put them down crying for a little while to just do basic self care and just have a 10 minute break.

One thing that helped my baby in this stage was sleeping in her smaller Moses basket with a white noise machine x

Avatar

My personal opinion is no. 3 week old s don't cry for no reason, if you've exhausted everything then they need your love and to be cuddled. Even if it's for hours on end. It won't last forever xx

Avatar

well even if hold him he is still crying and sorry but we also need sleep to or we can’t be there for him if we pass out

Avatar

definitely not the whole night we tried white noise it doesn’t work

Avatar

Hun if he’s crying like that constantly have you sought help from your gp / Health visitor. Take it in turns tonight so you both get a good few hours and then start the process of working out why he’s so upset. It could be his stomach or something like that. You need to ask for help if you guys are struggling xxx

Avatar

Are you joking? Take it in turns, work it out. Your not the first or the last to be sleep deprived from a new born!

Avatar

we don’t have any help and I am still trying to find a paediatrician

Avatar

we have been taking turns but parents also need to put them first if you are passing out from being exhausted how are you going to take care of a new born and did I say I was going to leave him in his room all night and not take care of him this is what’s wrong with the world your baby is important but your own mental health and to get even an hour of sleep is important you shouldn’t be going with out sleep at all or it will kill you we both aren’t getting sleep cause our house is small and can hear baby crying from all over also it’s not good for baby to be crying all day and all night I already got the okay from my midwife to leave him for at least just one hour but nothing more. Also my husband works cash just so we can afford formula because maturity or paternity pay is not enough in today’s economy

Avatar

the problem is it’s all day and all night which means baby isn’t getting sleep at all and I can’t take a nap unfortunately we don’t have family or friends to help

Avatar

The baby will cry in their room so you won't sleep any way in the small house so may aswell cuddle them x

Avatar

you should definitely take your baby to see a doctor. we were told if the baby is crying that much and is inconsolable than we needed to bring our son in to the doctor

Avatar

we were told by our midwife it’s purple crying but we will be trying a paediatrician walk in clinic but we still have to find a paediatrician doctor cause my family doctor won’t take him on

Avatar

Constant crying could be a variety of things, but it’s definitely worth taking him to the doctor if it’s constant! He could have tummy issues or possibly an allergy that’s causing him pain x

Avatar

the doctor said everything is fine and that it’s normal for babies to cry a lot but I can’t even put him down but even if I hold him he is still crying like this is so frustrating

Avatar

Most pediatrician offices have same day appointments they always leave a few appts for things like this. I would def take him in if you can. My son was crying a lot and found out he had a cow milk/soy allergy and has been a different baby since. This is why I’m not a big fan of the terms “colic” or “purple crying” until everything has been ruled out. But yeah take shifts and turns. Parents need sleep yes but do not need to be sleeping together at the same time right now.

Avatar

we have gotten no where we went to a paediatric walk in clinic and it was no help apparently it was normal for the baby to be crying all the time

Avatar

it’s normal for a baby to cry but it’s not normal for them to be inconsolable. babies usually cry because they need something or something is bothering them.

Avatar

we usually tried to make sure all of our babies needs were met when he cried. at that age it was typically because he was hungry, tired, or needed a diaper change. your baby could be over tired and that is why they are having such a hard time going down to sleep. have you tried putting them in a swing or doing contact sleeping? what are the same windows like currently? at that age the wake windows are about 45 minutes to an hour.

right now he isn’t sleeping at all we have tried everything

Avatar

I would try talking with a sleep consultant. I’m sure he’s crying because he’s so tired. Have you tried a car ride?

Avatar

he does like movement

we are looking for a sleep consultant now

Do men really enjoy fellatio?

Been together more than 10 years, but it's been a while since he even seemed remotely interested in me getting on my knees, or vice versa so to speak. I think it was once last year. Must be something I am doing wrong 🤔. Generally everything else in that department is great and we have two young kids with no extra support, so it's quite surprising we can't keep our hands off each other but may need to try new things. It's basically 2 positions each time with some foreplay.

I think Motherhood has made me more bitter than I realized…

This is such a ramble but I don’t know where else to put it all.

I’m four months in and I don’t really have hobbies right now. I don’t do anything for myself except maybe doomscrolling or listening to a podcast while I breastfeed my baby. I used to craft and have game nights with friends. Activities that usually are at least 2 hour stretches. Now if I have an hour free my mind immediately goes to baby, or doing something in the house for baby.

And I thought I didn’t mind. Like I knew postpartum could be very mentally consuming. But I think it’s altering how I view people around me and it’s prodding at my relationship with my husband.

He spends most of his time making food for us, looking after our dogs, playing with the baby, ect. But he still has time for his hobby. Spends maybe an hour a night on it. Even adapted to using a bot for shopping for his hobby after a certain incident where we had to have a heart to heart after he left me home alone with the baby for hours during a busy workday (I work from home) to shop for his hobby.

And yet there’s like this little green eyed monster in me that rages every time I know he’s running off to start up the bot. Even though I’m the reason he does it this way.

We took a family trip last weekend to see his best friend and their kids and let them meet the baby. He brought the laptop. He’s always brought a laptop on trips and it’s never been a problem to me before. But one night we both woke up while the baby was still asleep, and he wandered out of the room. I tried to fall back asleep but couldn’t. So I went to the kitchen to try having something warm to drink to settle me. And he was there at the table running the bot from his laptop. I flipped out at him. But there really wasn’t reason to. It’s not like I needed help with the baby and he was ignoring me. He wasn’t avoiding our friends. He was just awake and unable to sleep and found something to do with his time. Yet my snap reaction was “why the hell would you do this on a family trip?”

I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the less complete sleep from baby’s middle of the night feed? My brain being just consumed by baby? Maybe I’m not as over that shopping incident as I thought? But I’m just so annoyed at his hobby right now. The green eyed monster thinks “you could be using that time differently” but realistically to do what exactly??? Stare at our baby in the dark???

I spent probably an hour apologizing to him after I snapped. And he’s of course hurt and frustrated because I said some very mean things in the moment.

I don’t want to be this jealous, angry person. But I also don’t know how to find time for myself in this right now outside of basic hygiene. It’s like I’ve forgotten how to be myself, even if just for an hour.

Maybe I need a therapist.

Naps

How is everyone doing for naps?

Little one is 9 months old and will have 2 half hour naps and one solid 1 hour - 2 hour nap a day

Then settles for night around 9pm. Wakes for a feed around 3:30 then sleeps until 6-7

Vanilla extract

Has anyone used alcohol free vanilla in their babies formal to help them drink?
I’m 100% sure my baby refuses her bottles as she doesn’t like the taste of it!

Just anxious to try it, don’t want her to get used to it and then refuse bottles again after two weeks of using (correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read you use it for 2 weeks max)

TIA 🙂

Pumping advise

FTM to a 2 week old! I’m breastfeeding and then giving one formula bottle last in the evening before bed. I want to start expressing milk to give me some breathing room and also allow my partner to be more involved in feeding. I’m finding the idea of introducing pumping into my day quite overwhelming though. I don’t want to take milk away from my baby by pumping if he needs it during the day when being breastfeed.

Can anyone advise how I start pumping and when to do it? Thank you!
