I have booked a viability scan for when I am 7 weeks 2 days and pretty excited about it. I have had 2 previous miscarriages one March this year and March the year before.
When I spoke to my mum about it she’s going nuts as she thinks I shouldn’t have a vaginal ultrasound too early as could cause another miscarriage.
What does everyone thing? Thanks for reading ☺️

Theres no resson a transvaginal ultrasound would cause a miscarriage. If you think it'll give you peace of mind, absolutely do it. I had an early scan at 6 weeks with my daughter

If you have complications and get referred to early pregnancy they often cant see anything via a external ultrasound so it is done internal. I had one at 5weeks and they didnt mention anything that would cause worry. Tbf it's no different than having sex 🤷

Congrats! I don’t know how much science there is behind what your mom believes but I don’t think you should be worried. After two miscarriages back to back myself, I would definitely go to your ultrasound!

when I looked into it it does say there is no reason to think a trans vaginal ultrasound can cause a miscarriage but she’s just not listening 🤦🏻♀️ If this is the start of what’s to come I’m dreading it

Transvaginal scans are perfectly safe (they wouldn’t do them otherwise!). If the NHS recommends not eating flipping uncooked chorizo or blue cheese because of a 0.001% chance of food poisoning and then the small chance miscarriage then they wouldn’t go willy nilly putting a probe up your vagina if they thought for one second it could do baby damage 😅

Plus, unfortunately, the majority of miscarriages are to do with generic and chromosomal abnormalities which 100% cannot be avoided (unless you screen with IVF?). No scan could have caused a previous miscarriage if that’s what you mums implied either. Scans (and you) are not to blame! Get a scan if it helps reassure you and relax you in this pregnancy. Good luck x

I had an internal at 6+2 due to some bleeding. And have another scan tomorrow at 8+2 - stress is just as dangerous for baby as an internal. You’re the mumma you call the shots🫶

yes I’ve had these before with my other miscarriages too, I don’t think my mum really understands miscarriages as she just said when I had mine “I’ve never miscarried and your grandma hasn’t”

thank you so much! I feel so much better, I honestly think it’s because my mum doesn’t fully understand miscarriages. Not IVF no lovely x

I had IVF and they do a 7 week viability internal scan before they discharge you into NHS antenatal care so it’s perfectly safe!

now that’s good to know thank you

Gosh that's an outdated thought that as soon as women turns pregnant we have to be celibate and nothing goes up there.....
If she's worried about a TV scan she should also be worried about sex and quite frankly both are advised!
TV scans under 10 weeks are the advice because it poses no risk. And as a lot of other posters here say they often advise it when you have had previous problems .... even the ibf clinics do it to check!
I understand her not understanding what a miscarriage is but to make someone feel it's their fault when it's not is unfair.

I would go for the early scan. Don’t forget most parents never got proper scans and window to the womb never existed. My parents told me they were never told back then what you were having so I would always follow with how you feel and what you want in the end this is your journey. I had a scan and it put me more at ease ready for my 12 week with the hospital x

I am 5 weeks and 4 days and had a scan today to ensure it’s not an erotic pregnancy. It made me feel so much better and took away all the stress. I even got a little picture. Follow your gut xx

I have read quite a lot of research that has linked those scans to miscarriages. Obviously need to do some digging because big pharma etc hide these studies deep in the internet. There was someone else who posted spotting after hers and then she had another the week later to check the spotting and she bled and miscarried. She herself has not directly linked it but did say ‘makes me wonder if it was the cause but might be my paranoia’ or something…
