Ok so I need advice and need to rant about today. My daughter is 12 days old and weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces at birth but the doctor is concerned that she isn't back up yet and almost two weeks since she has been born so he wants me to supplement with formula which I really don't want to try again since she didn't poop for awhile when I tried giving it to her before. Maybe I need to feed her more and have alarms set but that's not really why I'm here. Today I had a new doctor checking her out but before him was a male resident and he ch cked her out and then said ok we will ask the doctor so he comes in and I can't remember if he washed his hands when he entered the room but not once did he put gloves on and he put his finger in my baby's mouth no gloves and I don't recall seeing his hands being washed when he came in . Am I just crazy and too overprotective and this is normal or was that uncalled for? Should I listen to him and do the formula since she is only 7 pounds 8 oz. I need advice should I just try to make sure I feed her exactly every 2 to 3 hours instead of letting her sleep a little longer? I really don't want to do formula but the doctors were really pushing for it and even gave me bottles of it.

Eww about the bare hands. I would not see that doctor again. Have you seen a lactation specialist? Maybe there is something medically going on that may explain the weight?

My daughter has struggled to gain weight also so my pediatrician has me doing breast milk and formula every 6 hrs . She is finally starting to gain weight . He wants her up to 10 lbs by the next appt . That is my priority right now is to get her to 10 lbs. my mom even bought us an infant scale so I weigh her every night cause I’m Paranoid . My doctor also said she might just be a skinny baby .

Every dr that has ever seen my newborn has worn gloves especially to put their fingers in his mouth. I would see about a different dr or mention it next time. And about the formula, your baby isn't far from their birth weight so maybe you just need to latch her more often or pump more often if that's what you're doing. Try feeding on demand as well, not strictly sticking to the alarms.

Your baby is perfectly fine. I went through the same thing with my baby last week. She is not far off from her birth weight remember every child is different. As long as your baby is pooping, eating, and doesn't show any signs of fever or illness. You are doing a great job and your baby will gain her birth weight in a couple of days. Just try to pump a little more and latch a little more. Don't stress about alarms you know your baby best so do what is best for her. Don't see that doctor again!

With the change of season respiratory illnesses will increase. Your baby's best chance of being protected is your breast milk since they can't get all their vaccines yet, however If you want to do formula as well you can. The most important thing is a fed baby. If you want to stick to breastfeeding you should and don't let anyone make those decisions for you.

I started to do bottle feeding too and I feel like that's when she started to gain weight but it's all my breast milk I don't feed her formula and she seems to pee and poo just fine. That's exactly why I wanted to even do any bottle feeding to know she is at least eating something
