Combination feeding

Is anyone planning to breastfeed as well as do some bottles of formula? Apparently you can’t pump in the first 6 weeks so was thinking about some formula here and there! X

You can pump straight away, infact it's encouraged to help increase the milk supply x

I was told in the hospital by a midwife that I could pump just to make sure you feed baby on both breasts and then pump after .

yes. i really don’t like the sound of pumping personally. it gives me the heebies when i see people on tiktok with them wireless ones that just attatch, they look so painful just hanging there (i’m sure they’re not really). im also concerned about the whole oversupply thing so i’ve decided his dad can just feed him with formula when it’s his turn to feed. my priority is the colostrum in his first weeks of life, but after then i don’t really think it makes a significant difference so i’m happy to do both bottle and breast x

@Emily with my first the breastfeeding consultant said not to pump for the first 6 weeks until supply is regulated or it can cause an oversupply 🤔 x

I guess there are just lots of different methods and ways of doing it. No right or wrong answer to it, but more of a personal preference thing and finding what works for you 😅 from all the research I've seen pumping is okay from the start, and there are others that say otherwise. It doesn't mean you have to do it x

I've been told it's best not to pump for the first 6 weeks too by my antenatal class and on The Thompson Method course too.

I'm planning on breast feeding then pumping as soon as i'm able to so my partner can join in on the feeds & waking up in the night with a mix of formula feeds if we need too.We have to live apart atm 40 mins from eachother so could be a night where he has baby on his own & bottle feeds

@Charleen well as I said, there is plenty of research on both terms. Waiting or pumping straight away. And it depends on circumstances and preferences. Some people want to pump and bottle feed, some need to return to work, some can't breast feed, some want to breastfeed, and bottle feed for dads. So, actually, yes, it does depend on preferences and circumstances.
