Getting to grips with new dairy and now found out soy free diet so I can breastfeed my 10 week old daughter who had a cows milk allergy diagnosed a couple of weeks ago. Found out 2 days ago I can’t eat soy either, so have started eating less as I’m not that hungry and not so many choices of food. I’m worried my milk supply is tailing off. Is anyone sure whether you have to have lots of calories for milk supply? I thought when I was pregnant I read doesn’t matter what you eat your body will take what it needs from you to make the milk, so if you don’t eat enough you will have enough milk but you’ll feel a bit crap. I’m confused and don’t have time to waste as she is refusing the special formula! I do drink plenty of water still. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Yeah you need extra calories to make more milk, and it’s actually a LOT more than average. My lactation consultant advised me I needed to be eating between 2200-2500 calories each day. This is because actually making the milk and baby feeding burns calories. Our bodies can’t make milk if we don’t get the energy from calories. Lots of water and lots of calories are needed

Thank you so very much for this…. I really do appreciate it! I am starting to feel starving and weak now too. Thank you so very, very much for this again
