72 hours no breastfeeding due to radiology imaging

I need to get imaging done at radiology due to gallbladder problems and I won't be able to breastfeed for 3 days due to radiation. I'm trying to save up milk for the next few days and he will also get formula. I'm struggling right now emotionally because I don't want to have to stop breastfeeding for that long... has anyone else gone through this?

i haven’t gone thru it but I stopped for a wic because I got covid but my baby latched perfectly fine afterwards. my mom took the baby away from me so she wouldn’t really get it :)

I had a CT scan and was never told to stop pumping or to dump what I did pump. Have you done your own research into it? The radiologists aren't always knowledgeable about that kind of stuff

I would get another opinion from your pediatrician or a lactation consult. I don't want to tell you not to worry. Because I have no idea. but I would think that your baby's doctor would be a good resource?

@Brianne yeah according to this article I have to stop breastfeeding for 72 hours due to the kind of imaging I am getting done

I'm sorry that's happening. I would definitely be stressed out too. Did he usually drink from a bottle? Or is he strictly breast?

Avatar

@Brianne he has had both formula and breast so he is used to both. I'm going to try and pump as much as possible before then while I can. I'm just sad that we won't have that bond for 3 whole days... and of course I'm worried that he won't latch again... I'm sure he will but the worry is still there

@cristina avila it makes me feel better to know that your baby latched after a week.

I had to wait 48hrs for my imaging and was not able to save up enough breastmilk but luckily I was able to get the same formula that they gave her to supplement in the hospital when she was born. She was able to latch back on after the wait period.

if he hadn't had a bottle I was going to just suggest using a bottle specifically for babies who do both. But I think since he is used to the bottle and the breast he should be pretty well established on switching between the two. I totally understand your worries though. I too have gallbladder issues. I don't have a PCP and I've been putting off getting on because I'm concerned that once I do and the issues are addressed I'll have to have it removed or something will happen that will interfere with breastfeeding. I know this is probably not the best idea. But I have so much fear and anxiety over it I cannot even face it! You are brave Mama. And know that whatever happens you are doing your best right now to continue on your breast feeding journey.

@Brianne I had the same fear and anxiety about this, but I can't deal with the pain from passing stones and my pancreas getting inflamed. It's some of the worst pain I've ever been through. I just want to be able to eat without being afraid of a flare up. I can't wait to get this stupid gallbladder removed lol. I'm just not happy that it has to be done this way.

Avatar

@Kadie that's good that she latched back on easily. Did you have gallbladder problems too?

I'm also just terrified of having surgery!! But it's getting pretty bad. I'm currently hiding in the back of my job crunched up in a ball. Did you get gallbladder issues from pregnancy or did you have it before?

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

My little one is struggling with sleep

Hey! I'm in need of some advice please girls! My little boy is 20 months turns 21 months in 2 half weeks. He use to sleep through the night now he is waking up every single night in the early morning, I've had to transition him to a toodler bed as he kept climbing out his cot. Just need some advice on what I can do to help him get back in to a sleep pattern?

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

6 month old autistism

My 6 month old makes no eye contact with me and doesn’t respond when I call him. Can this just be a phase or personality trait as apposed to autism

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
