My 7wo baby is EBF, I’ve been trying to introduce bottles so others can feed her too but she hates the taste of formula so I’ve started expressing
How much do you put in a bottle for a feed? She has a feed every 2-3 hours during the day (goes much longer at night and I don’t wake her as her weight is good so I let her sleep) but I have no idea how much she takes on any feed it can be anything from 5 mins to 20 - I know these are very short but GP/HV tell me not to worry as she’s clearly getting what she needs due to continued weight gain from the start!
Trying to reduce waste as I started experimenting with expressing a few weeks back and I had to throw so much away when she wasn’t finishing the bottles! If I only put say 2oz in a bottle and she looks like she’s going to finish can I top up that same bottle if I do it immediately?

I would start with 2 ounces and experiment by adding an ounce if she seems hungry! You can top off the same bottle. A rule of thumb my LC shared was to do 2.5x baby’s weight/# of feeds per day to get the amount per feed. So if she’s 8 lbs= 8x2.5=20 divided by say 8 feeds a day=2.5 ounces (ish) per feed.
You will express more in the morning than as the day goes on so I wouldn’t say that because you expressed x ounces at x time that’s what she will take!
thank you! I will give it a go thank you for sharing that advice 🙂
