Anyone else's newborn scream their head off for every nappy change?!
He's done this since day 1, and everyone said he would calm down with them once he got used to them, but he's 6 weeks tomorrow and still screams like nothing else for every single change.
I now dread doing his nappies as I hate seeing him so upset and it takes a while to calm him down afterwards.
I'm worried there's something wrong in that area that's being aggravated by the nappy changes but everything looks normal and health visitor has no concerns.
I don't expect him to enjoy nappy changes but they seem to really distress him and I don't know what to do.

Mine hates nappy changing but I'll do this B4 a feed so at least he has a reward of a drink after 🤣🤣

Omg yes! Glad it's not just my little one 🙈 I'm always so worried about her waking up next-door when I'm changing her in the night!

Yep! Mine screams 95% of the time, also hates getting dressed. And he loves the bath but hates getting out the bath and having fresh clothes put on.. which defeats the point of a lovely relaxing bedtime routine 😅

It could be the cold they don’t like?
Saying that my two year old still hates nappy changes and fights me 😂

same, I have no chance otherwise! 😅

the screams are so loud 😅

whenever he needs changed. Changing him on his changing table, unbutton baby grows (only remove them completely if they're soiled), remove nappy, water wipes to clean up, sudocreme, new nappy on, button back up.
Open to any techniques!

ah mine hates getting dressed too! Sleeves seem to push him over the edge! And mine hates all of bath time, it's definitely not relaxing 🤣

I did think that! We put a bed pad on the changing mat to remove the coldness from that, only unbutton as little as we need to, have the new nappy ready so back on and buttoned up again as quick as possible. I can't figure out how to take the coldness out of the wipes mind! I even ordered a wipe warmer (😅) but it never arrived but in that time I learned warming them can breed bacteria so scrapped that idea!

My little one used to be like this, I have a musical mobile above our changing table, some high contract picture cards on the wall too. He loves watching the animals move around, listens to the music and looks at the cards as well. Also only undo the baby grow from the legs to his belly button so he’s still warm in his arms etc. obviously when we do a fully body change we do it as quickly as possible.

We had the same problem and putting a towel down on the changing mat solved it! Now he only whinges a bit at the cold wipes but no screaming

Mine did the same but just this week I started playing music and clicking my fingers, singing etc and now he loves it x

Awk, my 5wo is the same, she hates being changed and dressed.
Though I saw a norland nanny do this recently: she popped down a puppy pad on the changing mat to help with the cold.
I had a ton of these on hand and gave it a go and did notice it helped a bit. I didn’t bother with a wipe warmer and they will get used the the wipes anyway but the pads help with cleanup after poonamis and the fountains of pee

@Kaye I'm also using puppy pads- you can find baby ones in poundland too - and it does help!

Yep my girl does too and she’s 5 weeks old. Still hating baths too but getting slightly better if I time it right with feeds etc x

I bought two £1.50 stick on mirrors from ikea and attached to the wall next to changing pad and she is obsessed with looking at herself. It really helped to calm her. Xx

great idea with the stuff to distract him! We already do only unbutton from the legs and if a full change as quick as poss!

we find the cream is necessary, he seems to get nappy rash really easily and it does soothe it and clear it up.
Using Pampers nappies. Hadn't thought that might be the problem! We did try them looser but he leaked out of them 🙈
We used to change him downstairs. It was no different. I don't think he likes the coldness of the changing mat so we put a bed pad on it every time now. Still get the screams though!

we do that (well a bed pad rather than a towel but same concept) and I do think that's made it more comfortable for him. He definitely hates the wipes! But I don't know if it's just that why he's screaming or if there's more to it!

I've tried singing which had no effect but could try playing music! X

we already put the bed pads down. It has made it more comfortable for him for sure but still get the screams! I thought he would be used to the wipes by now 🙈

we already use these

I think things like this to distract him are the way to go! X

Get a wipe warmer- it helps so much!

Our toot was exactly the same but we had to start using cotton balls and water instead of wipes and he was much calmer-maybe try that if you haven’t already?

I did order one but it never arrived and then someone told me they breed bacteria so I didn't bother re-ordering

tried that 😅

I don't know why I didn't think of this! I'll try another brand x

I put a brushed cotton pillowcase on the changing mat so it’s not such a cold surface.

amazing, thank you 🙏🏻

we already put bed pads on it x
