any advice for how to get yourself to believe the gender after ultrasound? i had serious “mom instinct” telling me it was a boy for the entire pregnancy so far, and we just found out it’s a girl! i can’t convince myself that it really is! we weren’t sure we wanted to know ahead of time, so they just gave us a little card that says it’s a girl and we don’t have any pics or proof. how do i convince myself they’re really right?! ultrasound at 20w3d baby measured 19w5d. could it be too early to really know for sure?

Doctor’s knowledge definitely trumps mom instinct so I’d just think of it as statistically the doctor is more likely to be accurate than instinct. Many people have an “instinct” or deep desire that is not correct and it is not uncommon to guess the incorrect gender whether out of want or chance.
Maybe requesting a blood test may help because they’re 99.99% accurate with the gender, but at 19 weeks, they can definitively determine the gender by looking at the genital area of an ultrasound — kind of like how you can tell the gender of a baby by seeing what their genitalia is.
If the doctors were uncertain, they would request more images but if they said it’s a girl because they could see a vagina rather than a penis, then it’s a girl.

Pretty profile
thanks ladies! id love to have the blood test, but our insurance recently dropped us due to my husband getting a raise so we won’t be paying out of pocket for tests unless they’re really needed! I think part of my doubt is coming from our first baby. it’s a boy, and we said we didn’t want to know gender before he was born, but at 20 weeks the doctor kept saying “she” and “she” was born a boy! so now im just not totally convinced if that makes sense!

If you can’t do the NIPT, I’d ask the doctors to specifically provide images/show you the genitalia via ultrasound.
It’s possible to not know the correct gender if they didn’t get a good shot of the ultrasound but if they did, it’s pretty definitive.
baby was breech and it did take a while for them to “find” gender. If we have another ultrasound I will definitely ask for a second look! Ultimately it’s not a big deal, it’s just hard to prepare when I’m having so much doubt about it really being a girl!
My sister in law just had a baby boy that she was told was a girl too, so lots of things making me question how accurate it all is without having pictures!😅

I would go to a private scan and get it confirmed - I would also guess boy x
what makes you say boy? I posted elsewhere and lots of people are saying girl! I don’t know what about a profile view gives it away.
