Hi 👋🏻
Just wondered if anyone else is anticipating the switch from breastfeeding to cows milk when their LO turns 1 and if they’ve any tips or advice they could share? I’m dreading it as my LO is a total boob monster and it’s a real comfort for him, but I’m very ready to stop when he turns 1.
Thanks in advance ❤️

I would say do it gradually for your baby's sake and your boobs. Gradually use different ways of comforting - bottle/rocking etc before or after a breastfeed and then slowly replace some breastfeeds with these different methods. You could start with expressed milk in a bottle to begin with so he has the familiar taste but in a different format, then it'll be easier to replace it with cows milk post 1yr. Your partner could start to comfort him if not already before or after a breast feed, gradually replacing that feed so he can give LO a bottle. Good luck but I think it's something that takes some adjustment. Your LO doesn't understand that he's turning one and what that means and go easy on yourself too! Also try to avoid starting this when he's teething, ill or going through another big change e.g. starting nursery.

definitely want to do it gradually because I don’t want to cause stress for him, because he’s such a boob monster and uses it for comfort. Thankfully we’ve stopped feeding to sleep but definitely think I’ll start soon to introduce some kind of alternative method for milk.
This is super helpful, thank you!!

There’s a really good podcast by Emma Pickett called Makes Milk that’s all about weaning. I’ve started listening to that to give me a guide

will definitely give this a listen, thank you!!
