Induction!

I’m going in on Monday for an induction at 37 weeks due to baby not growing to their expectation, I went naturally on my daughter 10 years ago so I’m just wondering if anyone has any positive stories about their previous inductions?? I’m trying to keep a positive mind as I really want a natural vaginal delivery again.

Ive been induced twice and had vaginal deliveries both times... The actual induction process didn't really do much but after 48 hours they decided to break my waters and put me on a drip on the next shift (night)... One labour took a few hours and the other took nearly 9. I would ask for pain relief straight away if you want it because I could only have gas and air with the 3 hour one as it all happened super fast. I've just had my 3rd baby a week early but I had to have a c section due to being breech and other complications. It wasn't what I was expecting but the outcome was so I'm happy xxx all the best

Avatar

thank you for your reply, was your cervix open at all before u went for the induction as I was checked this week and I’m
Still completely closed and I’m worrying that it’s going to make the induction process so much harder, I’ve also got a planned epidural but they said until I’ve started dilating they won’t be able to break my waters but once that happens I can have the epidural straight away x

Hi hun, I’ve had an induction delivery and to be honest it was my first time first baby so not sure what I was expecting. But from my experience it made things so much easy for me as you have an option of what pain relief you want after they break your waters. I chose the epidural option aswell as induced labour is more painful than when your labour starts naturally,
As a first time mum I was really scared, not sure what to expect.
Scared of all the pain etc.. lol I went for my scan and got told my baby’s stomach has stopped growing so it was all a panic for me. I still had 2 weeks left till my delivery due date.

They hospitalised me the next day and started the induction process which to be honest was the most painful part of the process, first method they used was to insert a balloon inside your vagina for 24 hours, which failed to do the job as it didn’t soften the cervix vagina area much so they did option b which was a gel inserted into your vagina, again painful process.

Avatar

But after time felt a little bit of pain mot
So much to be called contractions but that’s all I was feeling for a few hours and they decided to speed up the process as giving me the hormonal drip which gradually starts the pain, they check how much cm your cervix is and then decides to break the waters for you, after that is done they do the apidural process for you and once that’s done properly you won’t feel contraction pains at all.
Good luck and be strong !!
If you need any advice please feel free to ask

Avatar

thank you for your reply, I’m hoping the pessary works or the gel as I’ve heard the drip brings on the contractions so much more intense but I’m just going to go in with an open mind and just take whatever comes my way, how was your baby? Was the stomach all ok after? Xx

Avatar

Great thinking :)
Yes I had a natural birth and baby was all ok too, good luck and hopefully things go smooth for you, make sure to pack plenty of snacks, entertainment with you in your hospital bag as it’s a long process and waiting game xxx

Avatar

i had an induction for my 3rd and was just the same as my other 2, it wasnt any worse, that was at 38 weeks, when your body knows what its doing already its a lot easier xx

Avatar

I have my iPad packed in there with my Netflix so will have plenty to watch to keep me busy and snacks is a must I’m not looking forward to the hospital food 🙈 I’ve only ever stayed in once overnight and that was to have my daughter 10 years ago so I’m not a big fan of hospital 😫 x

Avatar

that’s what the consultant said he said because my body has had a perfect vaginal delivery before and have dilated really quickly after the waters have gone he can’t see why it won’t happen the same this time x

Avatar

yep exactly same as me, once i get to 4cm i give birth very quickly and it was no different with my induction, slept until 4cm then gave birth in a few hours, dont panic hun youll be just fine xx

Avatar

aw bless you, everyone is different to be honest with you I was in hospital for a week as I lost a lot of blood so I was given blood Infusion.
I wasn’t expecting to stay that long be prepared xx

Avatar

did u have the epidural once you were in established labour? I haven’t got a very good pain threshold which is why I’ve got one planned this time xx

Avatar

I’ve been told to pack for a week just incase so I redone my bag as I only had it packed for overnight 🙈 I will be living in my pjs anyway until I gotta put the gown on for my epidural lol xx

The ladies on my induction ward were there for a while. September and October are the busiest months in a maternity ward.
My cervix opened to 1/2cm on both occasions. First baby the drip accelerated the labour. In 1 hour 20 I went from 2cm to fully dilated and her born! 😲 second time I went for an epidural as soon as the drip was started due to how fast I reacted the first time.
You will be absolutely fine hun. We're made of strong stuff... Enjoy Netflix, relaxation and having meals made for you before the baby arrives... I definitely prefer a vaginal delivery after my c section this week... It didn't go quite to plan but most things for me never do 😂 xxx

Avatar

I was meant to go in yesterday and today but they’ve had no beds available but they said I’m definitely going in Monday morning I just hope I don’t get pushed back again as I’ve got myself prepared to go in now, I’m glad yours went well hun I can’t believe how fast you laboured the first time that’s amazing, did u have the gel or the pessary to start your cervix opening? X

Avatar

also please tell me hospital food has improved since 10 years ago lol, I’ve got my partner pre making me a big tub of pasta to take in with me lol xx

Avatar

ive never had any pain relief with any of mine, if you didnt have one before then you might not even need one again x

Avatar

I had an epidural with my last 10 years ago as I couldn’t cope with the pain lol xx

Avatar

well then just let them know that youre having another one in advanced so they give you it at the right time, and youll be well away, but definitely wait until established labor to have it x

Avatar

it’s in my folder all signed by the anaesthetist consultant I had a meeting with her at 32 weeks, but I will mention it when I go in just incase, they said I can’t have it until I’ve started dilating and they’ve broke my waters xx

Avatar

youve got it all figured out!! youre gonna be absolutely fine, i would hold off having your waters broken if youre contracting well though xx

Avatar

thanks Charlee I’ve gotta keep positive because I can get stressed really easily but I gotta keep thinking a relaxed body means a relaxed happy baby, I’m hoping my waters will go on their own but if it drags on I will have no choice but to have them broken because the pain is too much for me 🙈 xx

Avatar

just keep calm youre right relaxed body relaxed baby and better and easier labour for you, do some meditation and just calm your breathing, the best bit is you know how much it hurts now, youre prepared for it, so you can deal with it better, and put some logic onto it, you couldnt cope with the pain last time you thought it was that bad for you so you had an epidural and look youre fine your daughter is fine, so you did cope with it and you did what you needed to do xx

Avatar

Thanks so much for your lovely words, having kind supportive conversations on here really helps which is what I love about this app xx

Avatar

big tub of pasta is a must... I was hungry! Food was nice at my hospital but not loads of it for growing a baby 😆... It would be fine now. I had the pessaries both times x

Avatar

I do love pasta plus it will give me plenty of energy ready for the pushing lol, fingers crossed the pessaries work for me 🤞🏻🤞🏻 xx

Avatar

Can you explain what you mean by having to be induced because baby isn't growing to their expectation? I'm just trying to understand because in my mind, if baby wasn't grown enough yet, the safest thing would be to stay in utero and grow more before being birthed. I'm not trying to question you, I just genuinely want to understand

Avatar

so for me my placenta had stopped working which is why baby wasn’t growing properly, so obviously keeping a baby in there without a blood supply food supply etc could kill them x

Avatar

so basically they think there’s a chance the placenta isn’t working how it should and it could fail so the baby is safer out than in and will grow better on the outside than in xx

Avatar

that’s good that your waters went naturally im glad your labour wasn’t long I’m praying mine goes quite quickly once I start going xx

Avatar

I have had one today and rvi is amazing staff keep you well informed, and are really there for you xx

Avatar

My baby is 4lb and 13oz and doing great x

Avatar

that’s amazing news I’m still in hospital I got induced on Monday when I came in and needed more treatment on the Tuesday which worked and now I’ve been waiting to go upstairs to have my waters broken but baby is there ready to come out so they recon once my waters have gone it should be a quick progress xx

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

I have a feeling like I might get attacked from this but I’m going to say it anyways. incognito 🥸 GLP1s being mainstream for regular people who are NOT diabetic or morbidly obese is bad for so many reasons 💉💉💉

Side affects, long term dependency, supply shortages and costs, regaining the weight back as soon as you get off them.. all that ASIDE how do people not see just from a zoomed out perspective how crazy it is. I can’t imagine being someone facing food insecurity in an underdeveloped country and watching westerners give themselves daily jabs so they can lose weight while still eating a calorie surplus/ crappy foods. It’s giving hunger games when district 12 Katniss finds out at the party at the capital that people eat and then take a pill to make themselves sick so they can 🤮 and eat some more. These ads running ozempic everywhere are disgusting, and then getting amazing athletes like Serena Williams to push them talking bout “i’ve never been healthier” girl you were an OLYMPIC athlete wym??

Planned c section

Has anyone had a planned c section and been home the same day?

Getting pregnant after c section

When did you get pregnant again after a c section? Our plan was always to have 2 under 2 but that is now out the window because I had an emergency section. I know they say 18 months and we will be sticking to it (as much as I don’t want to) but I’m curious how quickly you got pregnant after your section?

Movements

I’m 28 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had loads and loads of movements but today I have only felt small flutters and a couple of kicks throughout the day. I get so confused as some people say they don’t have a pattern but others say they do. We have a Doppler so used it this evening and could hear the heartbeat and then moving but does anyone else get quieter days of movement than others? I am seeing my midwife tomorrow so will check but just find myself getting anxious about it and don’t know when to get checked. I know they encourage it but last time as soon as I got to triage baby started moving loads!
