I already put on around 6kg over the last year while TTC (cut out high intensity exercise, some enforced sedentary periods and hormones from IVF, diet not as healthy), and now in my first tri (I’m almost 12w) I’ve gained another 4kg as I needed to constantly eat to fight nausea and dialled back exercise due to fatigue. So I’m 10kg over my ‘happy weight’, my clothes are all tight/don’t fit and I just look fat not pregnant yet.
I really wanted to be one of those pregnant women with a neat bump and still trim limbs. Is it too late for me to achieve that now the all over weight gain has already happened? Has anyone found that their early excess weight gain redistributed to their bump? Have other people who gained more than recommended in the first tri managed to get back on track with normal/recommended levels of weight gain as their pregnancy progressed?
My priority is obviously my baby’s health and I’m not planning on dieting or anything (but will reign in the snacking now the nausea has faded), just wondering what lies ahead.

Learn more about our guidelines. Thanks . I’m at peace with the fact I might just be heavier for the next year. Was more a question to others who have gained more than the recommended amount in first tri whether things levelled out as you went along. Don’t want to risk gestational diabetes/other health problems if I keep up at this pace of weight gain!

I think you can’t control the weight you gain but you can control what you eat. You’re not supposed to eat more calories until your 3rd t, and even then it’s only 250 more. So just do that and excercise and then let everything else go.
