Confused about baby weight??

How do they know how much baby will weigh once born? My last scan is at 20 weeks so I’m confused how they measure and estimate how big baby will be? I don’t want to spend loads of money on tiny baby and newborn clothes if she’s going to come out massive😅 I’m on a tight budget so can’t waste money for her not to wear the clothes at all🥲

ultrasounds are never 100% accurate. they will just give you an estimate of how much your baby will weigh I think based on all of the measurements they take. at my last scan they said my baby was 6 pounds 12 ounces. she came about a week later and was 6 pounds 7 ounces. she’s 5 weeks old now and she’s still in newborn clothes and diapers lol

was you 20 weeks at that scan you were told estimate weight? And was it nhs one or did you go private? I’ve bought most my things in 0-3 months because I can’t gauge what I’m meant to buy haha xx

I have a lot of 0-3 month clothes as well and she’s still not able to wear them🤣 but no i was probably about 36-37 weeks because my OB needed to do a growth scan. If i were you I would just buy a lot of cheap onesies some long sleeve some short sleeve so you’re not spending a lot of money on clothes that your little one will only wear for no longer than 2 months

They told me my baby would be over 8lbs, and she was overdue and still only weighed 6lbs and 12oz lol I needed more newborn clothes and diapers for sure. Honestly, you could buy a pack of basic newborn onsies and just return them if you're baby is bigger. Maybe just get one package of newborn diapers.

Doesn't matter anyways, I had a growth scan at 37 weeks and they said she be 7lbs and she was 10lbs 7 and didn't really even fit newborn nevermind tiny baby.

My baby lived in a swaddle and diaper for the first couple of weeks. I had about 5 0-3 month gowns/footies for when we went out. Worked for us.

I had growth scans all the way through with my first, they said he was gonna be atleast 10lbs, arrived 3 days before his due date at 6lb7 and I'd only bought 0-3mnths and they swamped him. My parents went out and bought me newborn stuff and even most of that was too big 😂 I don't think he went into 0-3 until he was about 7/8 weeks old!

It’s not accurate. Buy a few newborn and a few 0-3 sizes. Once baby arrive you can buy more when you know what size it is. You can always sell them used clothes or even donate them.

I’d recommend buying a range of newborn and 0-3 months for the beginning. My baby was born 7Ibs 12 so not really that small,
But he still didn’t fit into 0-3 until about 5 weeks old so I was glad i had a lot of newborn stuff. You’ll only be told a weight estimate if you’re referred for growth scans. But they’re not accurate so I wouldn’t really go off them anyway. I was told he’d be 9 and a half pounds 😂. It’s safe just to get a range x

If you have a target to shop at nearby, buy Cat and Jack brand and sign up your phone with a target red account. The brand backs up their clothes so you can return it for any reason within a year as long as you have the receipt. The target red account will link all your purchases with it so you can pull up the receipts through it. It's saved me a ton of money on clothes for my two under two.

I would just buy a few bits if you need to when baby comes. Get your standard newborn etc and ask partner / fam / friends to run to the shop if you need tiny baby xx

Avatar

I would buy a few newborn and 0-3, they estimated my baby at 9lb at 39 weeks so I got induced, he was born 2 days later at 7lb 15oz, he was in newborn for around 5 weeks

Thrift thrift thrift! We’ve thrifted almost every piece of bay clothing we’ve personally bought.

Facebook is a great way to thrift baby clothes. Most babies outgrow clothing sizes quick. My 6m old is in 18m clothing she started in newborn.

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
