I am almost exclusively pumping for my baby (3x a day, it's been the same for many months, she is 8 months now), and just recently my supply has gotten even stronger. Although I'm happy I can supply milk for my little one, she doesn't breastfeed so I get no relief unless I pump, and sometimes it can get painful or just sooo uncomfortable. Does anyone know why this might be happening , or how I can try to get back to a "regular" supply? For reference, I have always had a good supply, it's just gotten even more lately .

Reduce the length you are pumping. Say, if you are doing 15 mins, switch to only 5-7 mins. So, the target is just to relieve pressure, not empty the breasts. Milk supply is created by demand, so if you reduce the demand, the body regulates.and produces slightly less milk at a slower pace. Note that it takes a week or two, but it does get better. Also, since baby is already on solids, they tend to drink less milk, so you might also want to cut back demand because of that.

Yes she drinks a lot less because she is eating now. So I shouldn't pump it all out then? They just get so full that it feels like such a release when they're emptied š«. I usually do half an hour !!

Yeah you are overpumping, do not empty the breasts because then you are telling your body "omg this baby is still hungry let's make mooore". Instead you want to tell your body "baby is full with half of our storage capacity so we don't need to produce this much this fast".

Iād do more frequent pumps but much shorter, just to a comfort level and see how that goes? I had to pump every 5-6 hours max with my personal capacity but I was only doing 7-10 minutes

Thanks everyone! I will definitely give it a try!! š. It makes sense, now that I think about it.

Try eating oatmeal and cool blue Gatorade is good for milk supply. I ate oatmeal cream pies.
