Has anybody else struggled to get a midwife? And how long did it take?. I'm 10 weeks pregnant tomorrow, I found out nearly two weeks ago and had to wait a week for my doctors appointment. When I had it, the doctor told me I had to a self referral online, only then for one hospital to tell me my gp had to do it. Two days later I changed my mind on my chosen hospital and managed to do a self referral online. This was 5 days ago and it said to allow up to 2 weeks, but I don't know how much longer I can wait to just know that everything is okay 🥲ðŸ˜

I’m a May 2023 mum! My GP sent me a link to self refer and on that it said there would be no contact from them until I was at least 12 weeks. We went and had a scan privately in the meantime to give ourselves some reassurance xx

i didnt see a midwife until 16 weeks, its pretty non existent atm, but youll get your 12 week scan through hopefully xx

@Charlee did you also get a private scan or did you still manage to have one through the NHS despite not seeing a midwife?

through the nhs you only get 2 scans, you get 12 weeks and 20 weeks, so anything else you want youll have to go privately, i dont really use the nhs so i have always had private scans, think ive had about 6/7 with this baby, you wont see a midwife before your scan, so youll get 12 week scan through then see your midwife around 16 weeks x

I found out I'm pregnant fairly early and self referred the same day. My midwife saw me at 8 weeks and said the hospital that do the scan will get hold of me to get it book in. If you are increasingly worried I'd call your GP and say and I'm sure there's something they can do to help x

My GP told me I get "a phone call end of the month" 🥴🥴 not even an appointment yet. I'll be Almost 3 months by the end of the month. It's a joke honestly

Oh my lord, honestly, you'd think it'll be a lot easier to get one, I understand there being a small wait but three months?! 😅

In our area you have a midwife appointment between 8&10 weeks, I imagine there's a phone number for the midwives somewhere? Just chase them up. You'll be better asking the question in a local mum group on Facebook probably as they'll know exactly how your area workd

I think they probably have guidelines around when they see you. In my area you have a booking appointment at around eight weeks as standard and then a scan around 12 weeks, then 20. Unless you have an issue you wouldn’t be automatically given a different midwife appointment before that point x

A reassurance scan at a private place might be good to help you feel better, until your 12 week NHS scan it’s u likely a community midwife would be able to confirm the hats going on inside and whether baby is all good x
