My water broke 4hrs ago but still no contractions. My dr wants to do pictocin by hr 6 if contractions don't start, but I was really hoping to avoid pictocin. Currently pacing around my room trying to get it going. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Yup, with my oldest my water broke around 3:30pm and nothing was happening. Started pitocin somewhere around 8pm. Felt strong contractions starting about midnight, 10cm by 3am! Good luck 🙂

My water broke at 36 weeks with my baby, I was only 1cm dilated with no contractions and they started me on pitocin right away

They started pictocin 2hrs ago. Going slowly, but it's starting

I really didn’t want Pitocin either, but ended up induced and eventually needing it after cervadil. They didn’t give it me until the epidural slowed my contractions. I fully trusted the hospital staff and everything went just fine. You got this!!

This is really common. You can google PROM but evidencebasedbirth.com has a free PDF download about it that has tons of information about the reasoning and evidence around PROM. Probably too late for you now but 6 hours is extremely early to start pitocin and doesn’t outweigh the risks caused by using the pitocin (except for for your doctor—their liability is significantly less if they use it than if they don’t—doesn’t mean it’s safer for you or baby though). In the homebirth/midwifery model of care we don’t get concerned about no contractions after PROM until it’s been at least 24 hours. We just keep stuff out of our vaginas (no cervical checks) and if we start to get close to that 24 hour mark, start trying things like nipple stimulation which is actually incredibly effective at bringing on contractions once your water has broken.

I was on pitocin right away due to the same situation as you. Labored for 36 hours, got stuck at 9cm dilated for four hours, ended up having an emergency c section. :/
