I've got my 12 week scan and blood test tomorrow, but I've also booked a private NIPT for the same day. The last time they took blood for the NIPT they couldn't process the sample as there wasn't enough fetal DNA and it suddenly occurred to me that if I'm having several tubes taken at NHS appointment, might that effect the NIPT?

I think they took three vials from me at 12 weeks, but to be honest I wasn’t counting them, I was too busy avoiding to throw up.

I have a feeling it was four? But would assume the fetal DNA would be evenly distributed in your blood so as long as you can have more taken on the same day it would be fine :) (or ring them if you’re worried! :) )

They take quite a lot at 12 weeks I believe but like above...I was desperately looking for distractions and trying not to throw up 🤣

I only had one vial took at 12 weeks for screening and 4 taken at my booking appointment with midwife x

I had 4 at booking in midwife and another 4 at 12 week x but I have b12 injections and they are keeping a close eye on my folate levels so I think they just like to drain me 🤣

Between 2 and 4 vials (I can’t remember) but how much blood is taken won’t be anything to do with the fetal dna present - it would be to do with how far along you are etc and how it’s showing in your blood.
So don’t worry 😊

I had one vial at 12 weeks

Thanks everyone. I'll double check with the NIPT place that it's ok.

Each tube is about 10 mls so it’s not really that much even if you got 4 done

They took 3 for me, but then got call next day to say that they couldnt find my blood test and had to go in for another 3.

Just had mine today, only 5ml! X

Thanks everyone 😘 I checked with the clinic and they said it was fine too. I'm just very anxious about having an invalid result as it stressed me out so much last time....I'd really built up getting the results. I was 10 and a bit weeks last time and will now be 12 and a half so hopefully there's more fetal DNA swimming around in my blood!
