We have been working on transitioning out of the swaddle for my 3 month babe for a few weeks now. We have tried going cold turkey (arms out “swaddle” with the nested bean and regular swaddle), the love to dream swaddle, and the one arm out technique, but she constantly wakes herself up or takes forever to fall asleep as she’s always got her hands in her face! She’s also knocking her soother out (another sleep prop…) which is causing her to take a while to settle also. Any tips mamas?! 😩

Following cause I’m in the same boat and I’m pretty sure we are going through an early sleep regression. I’ve heard good things about the Merlin sleep sack to help with transitioning

Following because same

We switched from the traditional swaddle to the magic Merlin suit cold turkey and my babe is doing great with them! No issues, doesn’t wake himself up, it’s amazing!

ugh girl SAME with the early sleep regression. It’s hit us all at once - so fun!

We did cold turkey. It was rough and took a few days, but baby adapted!

We started with the one arm out.. just a regular swaddle only during her naps.. at night I'd put both back in.. just for about a week.
After the week all naps/ night time sleep would be 1 arm out for another full week
.. then we took both out for naps only... and then both out for night a week after that. We started at the 2.5 month mark for our little one. She's all arms out now!

We are doing the same. Each night is different. The best one I've found so far is one where he can have his arms up but still in a sleep sack. I got it second hand, and the name is warm off. We also still use a swaddle belt as he likes the pressure on his chest. Every night seems to be different for him. Also having a long sleeved shirt with the glove things on it help.

The Magic merlin suit made it a smooth transition!

We used to use the nested bean transitional swaddle (classic zen) but kept the mesh arms intact. This way it got him used to the arms up. eventually switched over to the halo swaddle sack using the 1 arm out method. However we used mittens on him so he doesn’t pull his soother out with his fingers and now he has both arms out and the transition was more seamless than we expected.

I have had success with the zippadee zip

When my baby was in the NICU they recommended swaddling with their arms bent upwards so their hands are by their face. This helps them self soothe and allows them to swat things away from their face if needed. I found it’s helped now since she often gets her arms out anyways so it’ll help when we need to transition her to a regularly non swaddle sleep sack!

I’m currently doing one arm out. We tried that for a week then we tried both arms out for a week but he kept waking himself up and we both weren’t getting any sleep so we went back to one arm. I read an article saying that sometimes babies just aren’t ready and their startle reflex is still too strong and that’s ok! That waiting for a little while longer is fine. He’s doing really well with one arm out now so maybe in a few weeks we’ll try again!
