Hi mamas.
What are you feeding your babies for those moms who are not using the BLW method?
My little one is eating purées. We’ve recently introduced mashed potatoes.
Giving her solids gives me so much anxiety because I’m afraid she’ll choke.
What other types of foods can I give her.
Someone please tell me it’s not ask scary as it may seem. 😩😩😩😩

Hi! My baby’s 9m and we do a mix of purees and blw. Im a ftm so I’m also super scared and nervous while he eats😂 you can start with soft things like avocado rolled in hempseeds or baby cereal. Their gums can mash! If you’re not ready, kinda mash small pieces with your fingers and put them in their mouth.
For purées, you can puree anything and everything 😂 just steam it and then blend it with a little water. You can also buy those pacifier looking thingy’s that can hold fruits or veggies inside so baby practices eating without risk of choking☺️
that’s what im having trouble figuring out like what else I can give her that she’ll be able to mash.
That’s not mashed potatoes. She absolutely loves mashed potatoes

I steam carrots, broccoli, potatoes and peas. I add a bit of butter, turmeric, garlic and cottage cheese. I mash it up but not to a puree, still a little lumpy so she can use her gums to chew. It's usually good for a few days. I do blw so she gets in there herself.
I also make meatballs with ground beef and breadcrumbs. About 5 cm in diameter. Making sure the internal temperature is 75C, but cool down before offering. My baby holds it and eats herself.
Ive also given her rice with chicken and lentils mashed up.

Roasted butternut squash, roasted sweet potato, steamed broccoli, roasted zucchini or summer squash, lots of different veg can be roasted until soft/Mashable! Also fruits like apple or pear. Lentils are a good way to get a soft mashed protein sometimes I’ll roast butternut squash, sweet potato, apple and then mash that up with cooked red lentils and breast milk

Eggs and cottage cheese scrambled with a little bit of butter is also a common breakfast I give her

My son loves mashed potatoes so I missed it with different things. I would give him mashed potatoes with crushed salmon or pureed beef and crushed grill chicken. Add those add some texture as well but not to the point I'm afraid he'll choke.

My baby worked up from purees into soft chunks as doc said it is ok to have. Fork mashed foods. Avocado, baby oatmeal with powdered peanut butter mixed in, bananas, dehydrated fruit snacks, rice rusks, pureed mixed veggies (I boil then put in blender), refried beans (very small amount since it is salty), a few soft pieces of the inside of pizza crust or a dinner roll, crepes I make out of scrambled/whipped eggs+water+flour and cook. I break those up into little pieces after cooking lightly in butter.

I'm here to tell you it's not scary ♥️ it may take a bit for them to understand chewing but once they get it it's a whole new exciting world!
Today we tried acorn squash for the first time and it was a HIT. Just find something at the store that you'd be comfortable with like a banana and start small. You got this

This is steamed pumpkin. You can also do steamed carrots, broccoli, squash, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes and apples.
You can cut finger size banana, avocado, watermelon, mango, or give a big strawberry for them to chew on. Hope this helps☺️

I feel ya on this. The choking terrifies me but my boys are starting to get good at mashing after I found things I was comfortable with. We still do purées, thicker like mashed potatoes now and they are so good at using their utensils. I’ve been adding things to the purée as well for texture!
Some of our favorites:
-Strips of toast with apple sauce or mashed avocado
-oatmeal with chia, flax seeds and mashed fruits or scrambled eggs mixed in
-whole milk Greek yogurt with fruit
-purée of anything (sweet potato, carrots, brussel sprouts, zucchini) and I’ve been adding ground almonds, ground meat, sausage for texture
-I like giving store bought snacks for practice self feeding like puffs and the crunchy Cheeto looking snacks
-large chunks of whole fruit (strawberries/honeydew/melons/pineapple have been easiest to handle)
-hard boiled eggs

Every morning I make my daughter a sunny side up egg, slice up two long strips of toast, mash a banana of avocado and coconut milk yogurt. That’s really the only meal I’m comfortable making her that’s BLW, and then for lunch and dinner she still eats purées. Every now and then depending on what we’re eating I’ll give her some rice or mashed potatoes.
I too was scared out of my mind when we first tried eating solids, she choked (or gagged) on avocado toast and I panicked. I waited until she had more teeth to start trying again, 8 teeth later and I’m still terrified & easing into it.
Baby steps, move at your own pace 🤍

We’ve been doing mostly purées. In the morning he has oats mixed with formula, which is a bit chunkier than his purée. He recently started eating organic puffs and has been chewing them with his gums just fine. I give him thin sliced pieces of strawberries and smashed blueberries. He does fine with those. If we’re eating mashed potatoes or rice, he’ll eat some of that. We give him bits of pretty much everything we eat. I’m going to start scrambling an egg in the morning for him to have with his oats and try to do yogurt instead of oats every other morning. I’m terrified of giving him peanut butter for the first time though…

I cut everything into small pieces. Start w things that are mushy until you feel they’re good at chewing them you can give them whatever. My 9m old had steak w me last night. Eats broccoli.. I still feed it to her but that’s so she doesn’t make a giant mess. Use your gut instincts

I started on baby oatmeal, just plain. Then I moved to the flavored ones that seem to be a little more chunky because they’re flavored. My baby loves the banana flavored gerber oatmeal
