There’s no right or wrong way to do it but just curious if there are any mums that are currently just giving their little ones puréed veg and fruit only?! If so… how often do you give it them. As it stands my boy is EBF every 4 hours (not sure how much he takes but if I pump it’s usually around 5-7oz per feed). He’s gained weight from birth like there’s no tomorrow.
Anyway, we introduced weaning some weeks back when he was just over 5 months and he definitely wasn’t ready. He’s now 6.5 months and we’ve been doing purée once a day around 11am -12pm for a couple of weeks. I’m going to increase this tomorrow to two meals. He’s doing really well with it and enjoying everything I’ve been giving him.
However, I’m just worrying in case he’s not being given enough as I see some mums feeding their little ones at least twice a day on top of their milk. To note my boy is on the higher centile and always has been and I’m worried my slow start in weaning will effect his weight gain at this point. Am I being silly? What is everyone else’s current schedule as I have no idea when to introduce more solids 😫

I was given the best advice by a dietician and they said when babies first start weaning they will only want to eat solids which are the size of their clenched fist, which is only a small amount. My little boy has just turned 7 months and we are doing 2 meals at this size and he is doing great with it. Hope this reassures you. 😊

My girl is 6.5 months and only eating once a day… we have done a mix of different foods sometimes she likes it and sometimes she doesn’t… sometimes I think a fair bit goes in and sometimes it doesn’t I’m not worried. There getting almost everything they need from breastmilk. There zinc and iron stores start to decline at this point so work on introducing lentils and egg and meat / fish things like that aswell as fruit and veg.

At this point the nhs recommendations for breastfed babies is that they receive vitamins of A,C and D. I’ll post one that has the extract recommended amount in

My little boy is 7 months and he has breakfast and tea and sometimes a snack around lunchtime - he doesn’t eat very much of it, it’s just to get the taste/texture of food! We are doing a mixture of finger food and purées!
Babies main source of nutrition is their milk until 12 months, so everything else is just for fun/learning! The aim is to have baby eating 3 meals and 2 snacks by the age of one and completely up to you how you get there.. If you don’t already, follow Weaning the BLW Way on Facebook.. they have great advice for stuff like this (where i got the bits above from) 😊

One thing I’ve always been told is “food is for fun until one”, so the majority of nutrition is still from their milk whether breast or formula. It’s great to introduce them to all sorts but don’t put the pressure on yourself - as long as he is still getting his milk and just enjoying different textures and flavours in between all will be fine.

I actually disagree with the statement “food is just for fun”. Yes, allow babies to have fun with food, but it’s so much more than just that. From six months adequate nutrition is important, as well as helping little ones to learn the skill to feed themselves. Every baby progresses in their own time, one might takes longer to get the hang of weaning and only requires one feed per day, other babies are really into it from the get go and on 2 or 3 meals a day within a week or two. You will know best when your little one is ready to up the number of meals. Same as with breastfeeding or bottle feeding, watch out for the cues. Ideally babies “should” be on three meals around 7 to 9 months. I recommend the book “How to wean your baby” by Charlotte Stirling-Reed, she’s British, even Joe Wicks followed her weaning approach. She has many books, it’s easy to understand, like a weaning bible!

Our boy is now 7 months old and for the last month and a half he’s slowly had more and more, he now has strips of toast and everything.

My baby is seven months and today put one piece of carrot to his lips and spit it out and about three semi mashed peas. So just to reassure you. I did the same entirely BLW with my toddler who didn't put a single thing in her mouth until nine months. She's a great eater now. Both EBF too so there's loads of evidence our milk is sufficient until 12 months.
