Elective c-section or induction?

I have just made this decision myself. My due date is today but we have been in for reduced movements this week so they recommended inducing me today which I declined. I asked for them to give me until my due date to see if she would come naturally and it doesn’t look like she will be so we’ve made the decision to go elective section. I think at this point for us I didn’t want to force things medically, potentially increase any risks and also spend multiple days in hospital waiting for things to progress. It feels like the right decision for us now but everyone is different. I’ve heard some inductions go really well but birth is different for everyone! I’m due a call tomorrow to tell me when I can go in and to be honest I’m just grateful now she’ll be here soon! Xx

It’s so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it. My sister had two inductions, one ended in an emergency c-section and the other lasted for 3 days and ended up needing forceps. I just think the baby and your body isn’t when being induced but as you say everyone is different. I think it’s probably safer for my baby to have an elective c-section. Only you can decide this but I'll say my emergency c section was quite nice. I don't think an elective would have been any different just maybe they would have waited a tiny bit longer before cord cutting. He had an apgar score of 9 so was put on my chest within 10 mins and stayed there till the end of surgery. I was able to hold him to my chest with my own hands. We had our music

There are obviously different levels of "emergency" for an emergency section and ours was not acute. Were waiting on a hormone drip due to waters being broken over 24 hours (waited till 45 hours due to no beds on labour ward) but LO heartrate didn't react well to the epidural and being laid down for CTG machine. However I think the CTG machine just wasn't working as they constantly had to reposition it. It was slipping and looked really old. And when he was out he was totally fine.

I was only stressed because I had been very keen to avoid a section and I was afraid due to previous bad surgery experience (this was my first baby). And I was stressed about them telling me why it was needed they had no good bedside manner and were actually trying to make me as scared as possible. But once the section started I could not fault them
The surgeons were amazing I just really didn't rate the doctors handling my labour.

it’s different for everyone and people have different opinions on it. I’ve only ever had minor surgery so was absolutely terrified of the thought of it. That being said I’d rather be in a more controlled environment than potentially need an emergency one going down another route. People will comment on the recovery process but that can look different for everyone - my partner gets 6 weeks paternity off work and is allowed to stay in hospital overnight if we choose so that was a factor in the decision making for us also. I’m booked in on Saturday for my induction which I thought was great but after reading up on them & people’s experiences, I’m petrified now! Have an app Tuesday & im going to ask for a section too, the induction process can be so long depending on how ur body reacts to it & as u said it could end up in a emergency section anyway xx
