Breastfeeding/pumping questions

Hi ladies, my baby is now 2 weeks and I have been exclusively breastfeeding/nursing. I would like to begin pumping soon. I would love to hear about your experiences with breastfeeding & pumping. Did your baby nurse and still take a bottle as well? When did you start doing both?

I previously exclusively pumped with my first child so doing both is new for me. Any insight and advice appreciated!

Following! I've been exclusively breastfeeding as well. I have used the hakka to pump off the extra and we have used that in a bottle for my husband to feed her to get a liner stretch of sleep for me. She hates the bottle. It took us a few tries to find a bottle that she wouldn't choke on. She's use to trying to suck harder and then the bottle would flow to fast. We found that the Philip Avent anti colic bottles worked the best for her. I'm nervous to switch over to pumping I haven't even taken my pump out of the box.

I introduced a bottle around 2 weeks and now give her a small bottle a day. I give her bottle cold usually, which she doesn’t mind. She still BF all other feedings and has had no nipple confusion or favoring of the bottle. It’s all new territory for me (I’m a FTM), but this is what worked for us 😊 my baby Is almost 7 weeks.

I was exclusively pumping bc we had a hard time the first week.

However at one month I started breastfeeding & have been successful for 2 weeks. We started half & half now only 1 bottle at night.

Luckily my baby takes both very well. We try to do “pace feedings” this helps the baby decide the speed they’re drinking so it’s closer to the breast.

They do have Philips Avent bottles that are more breast like / we like these bottles but I have been told to be careful with them bc for some babies they’re too much work so they stop drinking before they’re truly finished.

Make sure you’re still pumping when you give the bottle so your milk supply stays consistent.

If you’re looking to build a stash, you can pump for a little after feeds to get a small amount of milk & slowly build more.

You produce the most milk in the middle of the nights / early mornings. So even when our baby sleeps longer I get up for one big pump at night. And have to pump after first morning feed.

We introduced the bottle at about 5 days because my daughter was losing too much weight and we supplemented with formula. We tried the Philip advent bottle which she would sometimes drink it but not often. Turns out the advent bottles were too difficult for her to drink from. We then tried the Tommy tippee which she sucked down super fast but that caused a lot of trapped gas. We now use the dr. Browns which seem to be working well. She’s drinking a good amount and spitting up a lot less. She’s much more comfortable. She also has no problem nursing or drinking from a bottle.

I had to start pumping almost right away because my guy was having a hard time latching and was falling asleep at the breast. Almost exclusively pumped and bottle fed for the first couple of weeks (we had a ton of guests and it was just easier but I’m getting pretty tired of pumping so trying to nurse more now! Baby is taking well to it and I still pump usually every three hours or just when I feel I need to. Still trying to figure out the right rhythm honestly 😅

We do both: breastfeeding and bottles. It works really well.

We tried a lot of different 🍼, but for us, the best is dr.brown narrow bottle with 1 size nipple because my LO is really small.

I am pumping sometime after feeding her, and we give her breast milk later, when she needs extra.

I like to give her a 20 or 30 ml snack sometimes after feeding if she is still hungry.

My son is two months old and I introduced a bottle at 2 weeks! I was worried about nipple confusion but we have NONE! He takes tommee tippee bottles and a mam pacifier and he still takes the bottle, paci and the boob

my baby is 3 weeks and I first gave her a bottle at a week old only because I went to the store real quick to take a breather, while my mom watched her and she got hungry before I got back, so my mom warmed up the breast milk and gave it to her then, I was scared of nipple confusion but she had no problem latching back on. she’s had a bottle a handful of times at the most, since then just so she can kinda get use to both for those type of situations. every baby is different and do whatever you feel comfortable doing too.

I’ve also had quite a few other breastfeeding moms tell me to do both, breastfeed and give them a bottle. just for when you are actually are away from baby they’ll still be comfortable and easy to feed with an actual bottle. I’ve only ever used the Philips avent bottles and she’s had no problem with them.

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

Not drinking

I’m going crazy. Baby born at 2.26kg. Slow to put on weight. This last week hasn’t put on any. Been trying to feed him at night and he’s not interested at all. Fast asleep. During day he will have 5 minute gulps and that’s it. He don’t cry for milk. I’ve got to keep offering to him. I try to offer it every hour but I don’t know what I’m doing. HV said nutrition comes after 5 minutes so I should pump first and then give him. I find it so hard. I tried to pump one boob nothing came. The other abit came. Tried giving him express he’s not interested in that too. Sometimes he will go for a longer a feed but not long at all. He’s 4 months and is currently 5.46kg. I have no family or friend support here and wish I had a cook, cleaner and nanny to help with everything so I can concentrate on the little one. I don’t know what’s wrong with him but I’m loosing it. It doesn’t help that my also stressed generally about my relationship and life circumstances. Any advice that will work. Any comfort you can give. I’m fed up. Is this regression - not feeding. He’s fast fast asleep. I’ve been trying to push the nipple in but that mouth is closed shut. I took some clothes off. Changed his nappy but he’s still asleep. Please help

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
