Anyone Here Got The Depo Shot? ( Depo-Provera )

Everyone is different. I got two rounds of the shot in 2019. I ate great (healthy) and exercised but gained alot of bone mass which made my bones brittle like an old person so I had to stop. I was also considered “infertile” for about 2ish years after.

I had a friend who did depo and she just gained so much weight in her face.

My OB (pregnant now) and I have talked about it and the depo shot is one of the main causes of infertility if you do it longer then a year or two. If you do get pregnant on depo you will most likely have a miscarriage because of the chemicals in it.

However, I didn’t mind the shot and only having to worry about it every three months. So there is a plus side to it - I would just advise you to weigh your options.

I know some people who did only one round of depo and have been trying to have kids for 10 years and it messed them up.

Left me on my period for nearly 6 months. 10/10 do not recommend. I also wouldn’t recommend mirena. That put me in the hospital for a week with a double staph infection 🫠🫠🫠

I was on it since 2012 worked great. Three kids later. After 4 years cause onset of osteoporosis. For 4 years zero cycle unless I missed a dose.

Depo was black boxed in the early 2000s for causing permanent infertility. They then to this day use it in 3rd world countries as a "vaccine". I had the shot 1 time & my bones started to hurt. I told them all my family medical history prior. They knew my dad's side has arthritis & osteoporosis. 6 months later no period I could barely walk confused what was happening & why my hips felt like glass. I'd get sharp hot knife digging pain in joints. I was 22 years old & the OB went 😳 "your body it looks like on blood work.. is pushing itself into menopause.." I had an urgent care do a bone density & MRI prior because I was in excruciating pain & said it felt like hot knives 10/10 in my joints. Sure enough I lost 30% of my bone density in my hips, 12% left elbow, & 12% that they could tell in comparison to my right shoulder.

IVF had to step in & I did free rounds of hormone injections etc. I'd go in morning & late afternoon 3 days a week with testing my levels etc.

I had my daughter on a whim.

During IVF 3 months, towards the end they said we should try for a child because my chances were extremely low. She suspected something else was going on so I had a exploratory laproscopic surgery & viola had Endometriosis wrapped and contorting my bowels, behind my heart, on my spine, and under one of my lungs. It was a 5 hour surgery. Because of depo and Endo it shot me right into peri-menopause. Anywho I can't have another child naturally nor with help because they aren't even sure how we had our daughter lol

I wanted it but my dr told me it’s not suppose to be a long term bc and since that’s what I wanted I went back to the pill. I think if it’s short term use it’s fine but definitely consult your dr about all the side effects and how long you should be getting it

I got it when I was in my early 20s and it messed up with my emotional and mental health. I was absolutely crazy. Constantly depressed no control over my emotions.

Would overreact over the smallest things. I was so toxic

I had no period at all while on depo, that was great! I was able to get pregnant about 1 year after getting off of it. However, I was only on depo for aboit a year and a half and I gained almost 60 lbs. Pregnant now and wondering if I will ever loose the weight. I would never recommend depo. I would rather have a period every month. When Im ready to get back on birth control ill be going back to the pill

No no no, I’m not really one to tell someone not to do something cuz it’s not my body but I will never stop telling people not to get the depo shot. I was on it for a while started it as a teen and when I went off I bled for a month + straight and was in excruciating pain, I had many struggles conceiving for years after and after speaking with many different women and hearing their stories I blame the depo shot for my infertility/hormone/ miscarriage issues 100%. There’s other options for birth control please consider them first and don’t do this to your body

I did depo for like a year & I bleed like the whole month. It had me eating like crazy. At 3am I was up eating. Pre kids. I gained a lot of healthy weight (I was my thickest ). Getting off of I was the devil so emotional. 2 years later started having kids

Depo shot is my only option for BC and I refused it. My sister gained a ton of weight on it, and I already am on meds that made me gain weight, so I didn't want to go through that again. It also just scares me because it's not like a pill that you can just stop taking, it's literally injected into you, so if you don't like it you're kinda stuck with it for a while after.

I would try to ask women you're related to what BC has worked for them as there's more of a chance you'll react similarly to a relative than a stranger. Best of luck no matter what you end up doing.

My mom took depo for 12 years and it made her go into early menopause, have hormonal issues and decreased bone density. She’s been on synthetic hormones for years now.

Be Careful using all these different methods/medicines. Keep it simple and safe- use a condom ❤️

I feel you I’m in the same boat after I have this kid, like I know I definitely don’t want anymore kids, but life is always so unpredictable and getting tubes tied just seems so official it scares me as well, the infertility issues aside though depo cause me to gain a ton of weight and I wonder if some of the “ mental health struggles” I experienced as a teen weren’t more hormone related due to being on the depo, and it’s gives your body hell when you finally go off of it. I am not a religious person but I still remember being 17 on my bathroom floor praying to god for forgiveness for whatever I had done to be in such pain, it felt like some of the worst contractions I didn’t know that at the time because I wasn’t a mother but being in labor reminded me of the pain I felt then.

Don’t get this poison! I know everyone is different but you can’t just “come off the shot” if you don’t agree with it…it’s in your system
Weight gain, low sex drive, brittle bones and it can take 18 months to totally leave you system even after one shot so not good if you want to plan future pregnancies

I loved it, was advised to come off it due to my weight as weight gain is a side effect (my weight gain was nothing to do with the depo tho). Got my period back properly with in 3 months and fell pregnant after 8 months. I fell pregnant by mistake too, we were ‘pulling and preying’ it didn’t work lol x

hi. We're not married yet and kinda living off our parents so, at the moment, he cant really afford a vasectomy but he does plan to once he hes able to pay for it himself :)) and my mother is paying for whatever birth control im going to get for now..

if that’s the case, then I think it would be best for the both of you to just use condoms in the meantime! :)

I was on depo back in 2017 until 2018 my second year on it I caught hives but i had bad side effects, gain weight lost my hair, was very emotional and I never gotten my period on it

I was on it for a little more than a year, and got pregnant maybe a year and a half after being off of it. I didn’t gain excessive weight, but it did make me feel super emotional.

I think I would’ve stayed on it had my doctor not advised me to get off of it!

I got a only one shot April 2023 it’s Feb I never got my period back yet 🫤🫤🫤
