Expressing

Is anybody struggling with expressing? I get barely anything out each time. Using the Elvie electric pump but then I’m also finding the Hakka more useful. Feeling like I’m never going to get enough to have a day / night off without the baby 🥲 any tips would be appreciated!

I've had good success with hiring the Medela Symphony hospital grade pump (£50 a month so only really worth it to get supply up or exclusively pump I guess). I joined a few Facebook groups and others have found the Medela hand pump works well for them. Have you checked the flange fit as that can make all the difference?

Hi Ava, firstly you are amazing! I am exclusively pumping, i tried Elvie wearable and I didn’t get much output but have both Medela freestyle with the expression bustier and the freestyle wearable and get much much more output! Hope this helps. Xxx

I second the medela freestyle. It’s wearable but gets me a decent enough supply. How long ago did you have your baby? I was initially only able to express a smaller amount but it’s increased over time. Make sure you’re hydrated and some recommended food/drinks include oats, fenugreek tea and coconut water. A big batch of soup (brothy ideally) would also be good to get the liquid in. It really does help. It may also help to try implement an expressing schedule to start with so your body knows it needs to produce milk - essentially whenever baby is being fed on a bottle, you could try express to mimic the breast feed and this should send an indication to your body to produce more milk.

Thanks all, I will have a look at the Mandela. he is 3 weeks tomorrow. He’s not back up to his birth weight yet so I am currently expressing after each feed to try and collect the fatty milk. I’ve tried a couple of times in between feeds as well but still only get a small amount! I will think about a schedule too!

Handsfree pumps really just don't have the power needed to get that fatty milk, you need a hospital grade, either medela or my personal favourite the lasinoh double electric which is really affordable to buy.

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
