My boy is 8m and I’m finding feeding on demand is getting difficult with fitting around his meals/ snacks. I’m doing BLW and been told milk comes first before 1. He’s never had a routine with BF’ing so I try and BF him before his meal but sometimes he won’t take it, then he will have a big full meal and then want boob but I’m worried that will be too much on his tummy especially in an evening. I kinda wish I could have set times he would BF. Do other breast feeding mums have this problem? Or do you have set times for BFing? Or has anyone gone from feeding on demand to set feeding times and have any tips?

I’m breastfeeding on demand and doing BLW. I also found it quite difficult to follow the guidance of “give them milk 30-60mins before a meal time”.
We’re doing breakfast and dinner at the moment. Sometimes she won’t have milk first thing (despite me offering) but I still give her breakfast anyway. Same thing at dinner time.. sometimes she’ll have had milk a couple of hours before, and I know she won’t want any more until bed time, so I still give her dinner.
My theory is that if I’ve offered her milk and she’s not wanted any then to just carry on.
I’d just say that if they seem to have decreased their milk intake, then to reduce solids offered. I haven’t noticed that in my LO yet, and she’s on track with her weight, so haven’t felt the need to reduce solids.
Hope that helps!

I just feed him whenever. If he wants a feed 20 mins before a meal, so be it. I dont worry about it 🙂

I also don’t worry about the timings. She still feeds through the night and is putting on weight, so I’m not worried! Sometimes she feeds a lot in the day and sometimes she doesn’t!

I also just feed whenever. Because we are feeding in demand and not set times I don’t think it has to be so strict. She always normally like hers after a meal anyway tbf!

I feed whenever but normally before and after her naps, she also wakes 1-2 times at night to feed. I think she is probably getting enough milk but hard to tell really!
When I’m at work she tends to drink about 200ml and then I feed her at 7.30am, 6pm, 11pm and sometimes 3am. So I think she is probably getting enough.
Thanks guys, this is reassuring! Il just take his lead and trust he knows what he needs! I’m sure he’s like holding out on the bf because he knows a meals coming tho 😂 like today he would not have anything all afternoon then he wolfed down sausage casserole, mash and veg for his dinner and then at 615 he wanted boob!! But I was like ffffs cos his bedtime feed with his dad before he goes sleep is 730pm 🥹 he ended up having all his meal a boobie feed and his bedtime bottle all within like 2 hrs 😅

I feed on demand & do BLW however she has fallen into a schedule all by herself only very occasionally will she want it outside of the normal times. This is what an average day looks like for us (9 months old) :
Night feed 5am
Morning feed 8:30am
Breakfast Meal 9am
Nap 11-11:30ish
Afternoon feed 12pm
Lunch Meal 12:45pm
Afternoon nap 2:30-3:30pm ish
2nd Afternoon Feed 3:30pm
Dinner Meal 6pm
Night feed 7:30pm
Bed 8pm

We feed on demand and do a mix of blw and purees. I find it so hard to fit solids in sometimes because he can be a real boob monster some days. His breakfast and dinner are always around the same time everyday, but lunch is the one we struggle to time right
