Has this happened to you? Scam?
I keep getting contacted by a debt collector for an energy bill from a previous residence. I've never had an energy bill in my name EVER. It's always been in my husband's name. We have since bought a house and nothing has ever hit ny credit but I keep getting calls. I googled the debt collection agency and it says they're legit but obviously any accounts we have had from previous residences are paid in full and closed accounts with no issues.
What is this? I don't want to give them ANY of my information, which they keep trying to verify when calling.

Scam. Do not give out any info. They are savvy nowadays too and will make you believe they are legit.
Thanks. They've been calling trying to get me to "verify" my info for nearly 3 years now to no avail. 🤔 You would think if they are collecting debt they wouldn't need you to verify anything, say "yes" or get you to confirm if you are who they are trying to track down.
Scam. If you have any correspondence from them you can report it. This is a really common scam. They will pick an area with only one provider (like a utility company) which makes it very likely that you have or had done business with them. I report these to the local sheriffs office or the state attorney’s office.
If it was a previous resident of the house all you need to do is contact them and state they don't live here haven't since X date and that's it they won't contact the house anymore. However if it's a previous residence of yours ignore it's a scam xx
