I’m going down the elective c section route for mental health / severe anxiety reasons. I understand I won’t be booked in until 32-36 weeks and the actual ELCS would be between 39-40 weeks. What happens if you go into labour early? Do they get you in as an emergency? What happens if baby wanted to come even before I had my date booked?

If you were to go in early labour and there was no real threat to baby or you for a natural birth they would either try and stop it or allow it to go ahead I can’t see them doing you an emergency c section if both you and baby are bodily ok personally I have had both natural and c section and the c section was by far the worst thing ever the recovery time is terrible now put that on top of looking after a new born baby and I would say that’s going to send your mental health off I had a choice this time to go natural or c section as I have had a previous emergency one but ain’t no way I’m doing that again if I can help it
was it difficult to get them to agree to it in the delivery suite?

Does anyone know if you can book a c-section as opposed to an induction labour? I have been told that I can't go beyond 40 weeks, if nothing happens until then I will be induced. I would be quite happy to have a natural birth if my body copes, but I don't want to be induced as everyone says it's horrible and you can be waiting in pain for days until your body starts birth.

@Rita I was induced with my first and once the pessary was inserted at 8pm I followed their advice of walk and keep walking till you can't walk no more. Eent to bed and then in the morning got up and walked more. My water went before midday the next day. So just 15hrs later. There was one lady induced in my ward who was still in there when I went home with baby as she didn't want to walk so it took much longer.
I've had a few friends induced too and none waited days. I know every woman is different however but please don't be put off by it.

Thanks that is reassuring. When my midwife spoke about women who had to wait a week after being induced, I was completely shocked and decided I didn't want that.

I think at any point you can choose how you deliver baby. They have to accommodate and listen to your reasons. Ultimately the doctors know what’s best for you but it’s always your choice

They would get you in for emergency yes , if they were very busy and medically needed ones were there too they would go first but you would get yours xx
