Yesterday at my anatomy scan I leaned my baby is measuring one week behind, she was 5 days behind from the beginning. They really alarmed me about it and now have determined I have marginal cord insertion meaning my umbilical cord isn’t centered and it can prevent all nutrients from getting to the baby. I spoke to a genetic counselor and they doubt it’s genetic but I’m going to do an amniocentesis next week out of precaution. Has anyone else dealt with this? My health system tends to be overly cautious and I think most facilities don’t even have the technology to detect marginal cord insertion. I’m trying not to worry too much, but it’s hard.

In my opinion that seems aggressive. Marginal cord can affect the growth of baby but it often doesn’t! I either have a marginal cord or worse velamentous I’m 22 weeks and go back at 27 weeks to determine which cord insertion it is. I just have an extra scan for now and then possibly addition scans depending on the outcome. At my anatomy scan baby was measuring on track luckily.
