Tommee tippee go prep

My little boy is 5 weeks old and is so windy. It’s gotten worse over the last week or so.

We normally use the prep machine for his bottles, but I’ve seen that it can make wind worse so I’m looking to stop.

I’ve seen that people use the hot shot method and then the nuby rapid cool to cool the remaining water. I tried this with the tommee tipppee go prep and the made up feed was too hot! Is it just the nuby that cools the water enough for the hot shot method?

If not, for night feeds I’ll likely have to have a flask with cold boiled water in too. Or can I bring cooled boiled water up and leave it up for night feeds (without being in a fridge)? Will it last and will it make the feed cold enough?

I never knew this about prep machine. My girl is unbelievably windy I've never know anything like it. She poops on every feed to so unsure if it's the formula too but HV said to carry on with it until next week and see if she puts on any weight as she is dropping off the line. I use to make the bottles of water up with my other w children (I know you shouldn't) so I just use a normal flask for my little one at night and when we are out. I may stop with the prep machine and see if that stops the wind

Hello ☺️ we had the prep machine and this is why we stopped using it. Our boy takes 4oz every feed so we boil the kettle and fill to 2oz with boiled water, mix then use 2oz of cooled boiled water. I keep the cooled boiled water in a flask or a sterile bottle. I bring the kettle upstairs at night with the flask of cooled boiled water. It's easy once you get into it. Hope this helps 🙏 ☺️ x

Also this makes the bottle the perfect temp for our wee one as he doesn't like cold bottles x

My Nuby rapid cool doesn’t completely cool it down when I do the hot shot method when the water is scalding straight out the kettle but I just stick it in a jug of cold water for a few minutes whilst I sort baby out x

Great, thank you all!! We’re on bottle two of no perfect prep, just hoping it makes a difference. He’ll still be windy, just hopefully not at trapped as before!

my HV told me about it at the 2 week check but I kind of ignored her as I know that HV’s are really against the prep machines.
I used the prep machine with my 6 year old in 2017 and he was windy too, but I just ploughed on!
My LO doesn’t poo after each feed, but just gets wind trapped!
Hope your LO starts to gain weight soon and that you get it figured out x

We also stopped using the prep machine and wind was one of the reasons. We now use the nuby rapid cool for every bottle but make it up completely in the bottle (add formula, add measured boiled water, shake and wait for it to cool, then wash with warm soapy water, rinse and leave to sterilise in Milton cold water steriliser)

Avatar

Oh, we have 2 rapid cools btw just so we always have one sterilised

Avatar

brilliant, thank you!
How soon after stopping the prep did you see a difference?

We saw slight improvement after a few days, we've not used it now for almost 2 weeks and now he only suffers with his wind every few days. When we used it, it was multiple times a day he was screaming whilst passing gas and often went days without pooping. Now he's at least once a day

I use the rapid cool method. He’s on 4oz. I do 1oz hot shot into the bottle, add the 4 scooos of formula & shake. In the rapid cool I add 3oz of boiling water and cool it down in the rapid cool & then add it to the bottle containing the hot shot & formula. Perfect temp bottle every time!
We use this method during the day, during the night & when out the house. Just use a flask and keep the boiling water in there.
Also stopped using the prep machine as it made him really poorly & sick!

Avatar

great, thank you! Hoping for an improvement. He’s been a little better today, but still so fussy with his bottles!
Hopefully we’ll get there x

Avatar

great, thank you! I tried this last night with the go prep and the milk was very hot still, not sure if I did something wrong 🤷‍♀️

are you tipping it upside down to activate the thermometer? With the rapid cool you have to switch it on, and then tip the liquid upside down until the green light fades, switch it back on again to show the amber light and then leave for 2 mins & repeat the process until the light is green and it’s always cooled down loads. I don’t know how the Tommee tippee one works xx

Did you hold the bottle upside down for 5 seconds to check for the blue star? I made the mistake once of just seeing the blue star and pouring it into bottle but it was still too hot (luckily I check on my wrist still) so now when I see the blue star I make sure to hold upside for 5 seconds to double check x

Avatar

yeah I did this, it just doesn’t cool it enough. If I make a full bottle with the formula in then it’s perfect temp. However, if I try to use it for hot shot method, it’s too hot still

Avatar

It may be that there’s too much boiling in first for the hot shot? So when adding the cool it’s too still too hot

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Vanilla extract

Has anyone used alcohol free vanilla in their babies formal to help them drink?
I’m 100% sure my baby refuses her bottles as she doesn’t like the taste of it!

Just anxious to try it, don’t want her to get used to it and then refuse bottles again after two weeks of using (correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read you use it for 2 weeks max)

TIA 🙂

Sex post C section

Hi ladies I’m 4 weeks 5 days postpartum and I had a C section. I’m not bleeding properly anymore just some brownish discharge stuff that starts on and off. I’d like to do the deed with my partner; is it okay to do so or shall I wait the full 6 weeks. I feel up for it but also worried because the advice is 6-8 weeks.

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?
