My induction is failingšŸ˜”

Started at 12pm Monday with the propess, had really strong contractions in the evening but was only at 1cm.

Second propess was put in at 6pm Tuesday, brought on mild contractions, woke up for a wee at 12am, went for a wee and the propess fell out so they put it back in and it went down hill from there! Contractions were coming in way too strong and too quickly, tried a bath to help, didn’t really do much! Put on the monitor and babies heart rate was too high and erratic so a consultant was called to the ward to see me. They got the propess out instantly and gave me an injection to stop the contraction, then he told me to choose between the balloon of a Caesarian because baby is stressed.

I have no idea what to do, I just want my baby here safely and I have no idea which one will be best!! Any advice or opinions, please go ahead!

Firstly mummy you have got this!

I was induced on Saturday which resulted in an emergency c-section Monday morning due to baby distressed and although being the furthest thing away from my ā€œideal birthā€ I am so grateful to have my baby safe in my arms.

Section is uncomfortable but definitely manageable with paracetamol and ibuprofen so far xx

Whichever one you chose will be right for you. We need to be open to changes in birth plan for the safety if baby and yourself. You've def got this.

The pessary gel didn't work for me either. I was gutted and felt like I'd failed but then went ahead with the drip and now my son is in my arms feeding. It will all be worth it.... keep going mamma šŸ’Ŗ almost there xx wishing you'll have them in your arms soon x

Hey maybe give the balloon a go? X

Hey darling I’ve had the same as you and in hosp since Saturday morning. 2 failed process and now a failed balloon catheter. Praying it’s opened enough to have my waters broken at 0800am today, if not i will be having a c section…
You’re not alone ā¤ļøxxx

Thank you ladies🄺 I’m so irritated and tender downstairs now, I’m nervous to have a cervix exam let alone them to try and put anything else in tbh! The contractions were so bad they were reducing me to tears, I really thought I’d cope better than that!

Ask for gas and air for your exams I have ā¤ļøxx

It’s completely your decision. Induction has a 30-50% chance of ending in unplanned or emergency caesarean and what has happened is a common side effect.
You can choose to carry on, or you don’t have to continue induction or have a caesarean, if baby has called down you could choose to go home and let baby choose their birth day, but the risk of leaving them now is higher as they’ve been distressed. Weigh up the BRAIN and make the decision that feels right for you both.
B - benefits
R - risks
A - alternatives
I - what you instinct says
N - doing nothing more

I had an induction on 16th November, and had 5 lots of gel was about to have the 6th and they said they couldn’t do it coz it would overstimulate me I was so frustrated by this point it had been nearly 4 days of pain because the gel was causing me pain, and they said if the 5th one didn’t do enough to break my waters, I would have to have a c section, luckily it was enough but from there I had the hormone drip, after finally having my waters broken, and finally after pain and stress she was born on the 20/11/23 and 00:58am! Good luck you’re doing amazing I’m here if you want to message xx

I had a failed induction with the balloon,m and ended up with a C-section which wasn’t planned. If it were me personally I’d opt for the section xx

I had great success with the balloon! You’ve got this ā™„ļøā™„ļø

And yes gas and air for every exam!!!

Avatar

I was induced due to my waters breaking and in the end, after 27 hours, had to be taken for a forceps delivery. I had gas and air for every exam which made it much more manageable. It wasn't the way I'd planned but in the end i was grateful because I just couldn't do it anymore, I was exhausted and despite being fully dilated, baby just wasn't for coming! I think Birth plans can sometimes be a negative as movement away from it feels like failure and its not that way at all

Avatar

I had a similar experience in that the pessary gave me contractions and not much dilation. I got to a similar point where they said they could just try rupturing the membranes (dilated only about 2cm) and continuing but the baby was getting a bit upset and monitoring not normal so c section was offered. My plan was always to do whatever would get the baby out safely and to be honest the moment there was signs of distress on the monitor I just said get the baby out fastest and so opted for c section and my experience was great. Now 6 days down the line and just grateful he is here!

Avatar

Afterwards on reflection with obstetrician and midwife he was 9lbs and was not really in a good position for labour and so would have likely resulted in a section either way (and the only difference would have been hours more discomfort and pain and possibly worsening baby distress)

Avatar

Thank you so much girls, these comments have been really helpful!

I’m going to labour ward for them to assess if they can break my waters, if not then I’ll consider the balloon. If at any point I change my mind or I feel too uncomfortable or baby gets stressed, we’ll be stopping and I’ll be having a C Section! I’ve made my peace with it now so I don’t mind either way, going to give it one last go! Just want my little girl here safely!

I had something simular in the sense that baby was stressed her heart rate dropped to 60bpm and unfortunately I was rushed to theatre for an emergency c-section although it definitely wasn't my plan and I wanted to avoid it at all costs but I knew it was best for my baby. She is now 2 weeks old and it was the best decision made knowing she's still here safe and healthy.
Things don't always go to plan but try not to stress out about it just take a deep breath and remember whatever route you go down is best for you and baby and baby will be in your arms shortly!
You're doing amazing 🄰

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient šŸ˜‚šŸ„²
