26 weeks and CRAVING a packet of wafer thin chicken, I know people say not to eat deli meats but is it safe to eat? Used to eat it all the time before being pregnant just wondering if it’s seriously threatening to my baby?

Honestly, I’ve been eating deli meats my entire pregnancy and I’m 38+1. I think being in the UK we’re pretty good with food prep and food regulations so I’d go ahead and enjoy it 💕💕

Heat kills bacteria so you can always just get it and heat it in the microwave!

I’d always thought that the deli meats to avoid were salami, Parma ham, chorizo if uncooked as they are raw. Packaged ham and chicken will have been cooked first, so any bacteria should have been killed. I could have completely misunderstood the guidance though!

The chicken and ham slices etc are absolutely safe to eat.

oh brilliant okay thank you ☺️ xxx

Thank you everyone just needed some other opinions 😘😘

I'm almost 29 weeks i don't touch deli meat can be contaminated with listeria

U can eat lion steak 😋

listeria is very rare. especially in pregnant women. you can get listeria from eating lettuce. and you don’t see people avoiding salads lol.
just get it from a reputable place that takes food safety seriously

I just don't touch it I eat 🤷 what I feel safe with

I'm pretty sure it's like fresh counter deli meat because of the risk of bacteria. The packet stuff should be fine. I've been having ham sandwiches everyday both pregnancies.

That's only a thing in the USA in the UK it's perfectly safe to eat packs of meat slices and salami etc

I ate deli meats my whole pregnancy and german salami was my fave at the time 🤣 baby is completely fine 🤷🏽♀️ i think its nore of a precaution than anything

NO they contain bacteria in them including listeria since they are not fully cooked, can potentially harm or even kill baby, do not ear them whilst pregnant.

in the UK when I was pregnant they told us on HNS site not to

It’s only cured deli meats and even then, if they’ve been frozen or heated, they’re fine! 😊

Sliced chicken is completely cooked so it’s absolutely fine to eat (in the uk, I think the us is different)

the nhs website says to be careful with cured meats like salami or pepperoni unless cooked properly. Wafer thin chicken would count as cold, pre-packed meat which is fine to eat according to the same website

exactly and as long as the packet from the shop says ready to eat on salami etc it's safe to eat as it's been heat treated already. If you're unsure if those meats it says on the website (it may have been a different one I can't remember but it's from the NHS) that freezing it for 4 days and then cooking it kills any bacteria

to be honest if I’m eating pepperoni it’s on a pizza so it’s cooked anyway 😂. Pre-packed meats I’ve been eating the whole way through and I’m nearly at the end. Now all this talk about deli meats is making me want a turkey breast subway 😂😂😂

I ate deli meats my entire pregnancy

I didn't know this was a thing and ate deli meats constantly. I had gestational diabetes and subway was healthier then say a pizza
