Isolated EIF after Negative NIPT?

Just had my 20 week anatomy scan to see our little man 💙💚 NIPT results were negative for all genetic abnormalities, however today during the scan the doctor said he has an isolated Echogenic intracardiac focus. She said it is a marker for down syndrome. I am a first time mom and all of this information is very confusing and concerning to me. I now have to visit a specialist for my baby. Any moms with similar circumstances? I just want the best for our son and I am terribly worried.

I remember they told me something like that, too, for my first pregnancy. But if the genetic results are negative, there is really nothing to worry about. I had a healthy baby girl

Interesting. The NIPT is like 99% accurate, the doctor is probably just providing you this information so you are aware. I would try to not stress, and ask your doctor if she is concerned or feels the need to come up with a plan. I had something similar at my 12 week scan, and the doctor and I developed a plan for what we would do (like checking for certain things in future scans, and if the scans showed additional abnormalities we would do an amniocentesis’ test) I’m sorry you’re dealing with this I know how unbearably stressful it is sitting with this information and not feeling in control. Sending you and your partner a big hug and your baby a prayer! ❤️❤️

With the testing I got it gives a percentage on how likely ur child won’t get it cause there isn’t just a negative and positive there’s a oh there’s a 95% chance ur child won’t get this so there was likely a very very small chance as it was, I’m sure everything will be okay tho doctors will likely talk to u about it more

My doctor saw a calcification that was a marker for downs. She said if your genetics came clear it was likely nothing to worry about.

Typically your NIPT results are 99.8 % correct.

Any update on this? My baby has this so I searched EIF and this Post came up? Everyone have healthy babies? I’m just so concerned and doing research

@Erin My son is now 4 months old and is perfectly healthy :)

@Brilynn did you do any more genetic testing (to see if baby would have Down syndrome) or just wait to see at birth?
