Why are forceps banned in some European countries but then used so often in the U.K.?

I just read that in Italy and other European countries forceps are banned. However, in the U.K. they are used so often and I see so many mums (myself included) traumatised by their forceps births and having really difficult recoveries with prolapse, episiotomy cut, tearing, stitches etc.

Does anyone know why it’s still allowed in the U.K. but not in other countries? I don’t understand why it’s still allowed in the U.K. if it’s deemed unsafe for mum and baby in other countries.

I had a forcep delivery and whilst I’m not traumatised by the use of the forceps themselves, the recovery following the use of them and the episiotomy really messed me up! I’ve only just fully recovered to a more comfortable point a year after my son was born. Luckily the forceps also done no lasting damage to my son, but I know for a lot of others it’s a different story. I didn’t even realised they were banned in some other countries!

Yeah I've read this before and was horrified, theres probably some research that's shows when used correctly they're fine but....
I've always heard stories about poor mums and the physical recovery afterwards being horrendous. I spoke to doctor and would totally refuse them, easily go for a section over forceps anyday.

when I gave birth to my son; they said that forceps was a safer option because of how far I had pushed him down. They said if it didn’t work, I would need an emergency cesarean but they would have to pull him back up to pull him out…which could do more damage? Honestly with the recovery from my forcep delivery and episiotomy, I think I would have preferred having the cesarean!

This is interesting I didn’t know this! I also had a forceps delivery but luckily my recovery was good and I’ve had no issues recovering from that or episiotomy

I didn’t know this either. As others have said, the recovery was horrendous. I’d never imagined the pain I would have experienced and for so long. I was actually worried something was wrong, went to the gp to be checked and they said it was just so bruised from a traumatic and forceful delivery

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia

Anyone else felt like this?

Hi, I’m 4 months postpartum, little one sleeps through the night and is formula fed, the last week I’ve felt extremely tired and very hungry! Just wondered if anyone else has felt this way/experienced this?

Hey what are your current symptoms?

I’m 37+5

I’m pretty mobile still but anything over a hour or 2 and I’m in discomfort

Getting up from a sitting position is hard

Some of baby’s movements now are bordering on painful especially around my crotch/pelvis

I’m exhausted very easily and nap every single day

Can basically only breathe out my mouth now and I’m snoring and dribbling 😂

Standing in one leg is very painful 😂

Some waves of pain/ tightening but I regular and mild

Low period type aches

And I feel like a fire breathing dragon with this acid reflux

My nose is growing 😂

My fingers swell slightly and go numbs in my sleep so that and constant toilet breaks keep me up ( checked swelling with MW and consultant and all normal, not a worry)

I also do not want to be social in person like I’d rather everyone just be my penpal atm lol

What are your symptoms?

Baby movements

I’m 19 weeks and some. I keep hearing about people feeling their babies move about now. I’ve googled it and it says not to worry but I seem to be the only person not feeling my baby. Is there anyone else around 19 weeks who hasn’t felt anything?
