This is probably a silly question but first time mum here so I’m still learning 😃. I’ve started on washing the baby clothes and packing my hospital bag. I’ve realised I have loads of 0-1 month and 0-3 months clothes (sleep suits/vests etc), but I have a very few “newborn” clothes. Is the 0-3m typically bigger and should I get more newborn clothes? Maybe I’m being naive but 0-3 I had assumed was straight from birth. Thank you ☺️ xx

I thought newborn and 0-3 were the same thing! I could be wrong though!

0-3 is slightly bigger than newborn, I wouldn’t worry about getting newborn clothes as they will mostly likely fit fine or a tiny bit too big

My boy was born 7Ibs 15 so not even small, but he was in newborn for 8 weeks. 0-3 didn’t fit him until then. But if you have loads of 0-1 then you’ll probably be okay. Maybe get a couple newborn bits and see if you need anymore once baby is here x

I packed 0-3 and 0-1 but ended up having to get tiny baby and newborn

So yes, newborn size is smaller than 0-3m, but it’s a little tricky cause depending on the size of your baby when they’re born they might not even fit newborn size at all 😇 I would pack a couple of pieces of newborn clothing + 0-3m for the hospital just in case, but like I said don’t buy too much newborn cause you never know. If you need more you’ll order some sleepies as you go, it’s the easiest when they’re first born

Thanks very much ladies 😊 xx

On the label it usually says the weight that size usually goes up to. 0-3 is bigger than newborn. When I’d buy first size I think it was 9lbs but 0-3 is bigger than that! It really depends how quick your baby grows. They’ll probably be in 0-3 longer than the newborn or first size. If you have loads of 0-3 already I’d maybe not buy anything else and wait for baby to come - you can always nip to a supermarket and buy some cute sleepsuits or whatever you need if you feel you want more! But we had to go out and buy more first size clothes as 0-3 drowned her and she was 8lbs 1oz, but very average length!

My baby was 7lbs 5 and didn’t fit in 0-3 month clothes until he was 2 months. We ended up buying some ‘tiny baby’ clothes for the first few weeks. We made do in the hospital with the up to 1 month clothes though and it’s easy to get more clothes once they are born and you know what sizes to get. We realised that wrap over bodysuits and zip onesies were the way to go for us! Anything to make it all a bit easier in the early days x

Thanks so much everyone, that’s really helpful ☺️ xx

I’ve started off with a mixture of newborn and 0-1 month clothes because, like people have said, we don’t know how big the baby will be when they’re born.

0-3 is usually up to 10 and 11 pound first size is usually jp to 7.5 and new born up to 9lb but this varies depending on the shop. If you have plenty of 0-1 you should be okay but unless you’re expecting a bigger baby 0-3 will prob be a bit on the big side initially

I had newborn clothes for my daughter but she came out at a tiny 6lbs7, they were enormous on her, she was a tiny little thing. Ended up sending my mum to the supermarket nearby for tiny baby clothes

No 0-3 means it will fit a baby typically up to 3 months so it will be large on a newborn. For my hospital bag I have packed newborn and up to 1 month sizes only. I’ve not packed any 0-3 months (unless you know you are having a bigger baby). Typically babies stay in newborn sizes for at least 2-3 weeks and longer if they are born on the smaller side. Also depends on clothing brands as some are long like Next! I haven’t bought any tiny baby sizes yet - I might get 1-2 outfits in case - going to see what he is predicted in a couple of weeks to see if I should get a few more.
