Has anymore given birth at the mlu? I'm wondering what your experience was like and what you had access too like low lighting and pain relief etc xx

If you can avoid QEQM I would if I was you… just google the death rates in infants and mothers. It’s 23 babies deaths that could have been prevented and 15 mothers which could have been avoided… my baby and I both nearly died there in their care in May 2023… were in the process of suing the hospital for many things.. everything that happened to me was preventable.. I have since had a lot of trauma and PTSD. Xx

Hey, I gave birth in the mlu and it was a positive experience for me, I had midwife Mandy she is amazing and so attentive, had access to pain relief i had gas and air and pethidine, I was able to turn the lights off in the pool room but I had to be move to another room but by that stage I was in labour so was pretty high from the drugs haha but I’m sure if you ask they will help you with that any other questions feel free to ask x

Thank you for your reply

Its very difficult to know where to go and what to do for the best.

I'm so sorry you had a horrible experience 😔

Thank you for sharing, it can't be an easy thing to talk about xx

That's great to hear! I'd really like low lighting and a pool labour and birth if I can but I've never known of anyone personally tobuse the mlu so it's great to hear your experience xx

I had every intention of giving birth in the mlu but couldn’t in the end due to needing to be monitored for reduced movements, but just wanted to say that the care I received in October 2023 at QEQM was superb and I couldn’t fault it. You can book a tour of the mlu and they can answer any of your specific questions if that interests you🤗

I started off in mlu and had such a great experience Yvonne was one of my midwives and I can’t remember the other ones name but they were all so amazing and positive. Constantly supporting me and giving me a confidence boost and telling me I can do it and I’m doing so well which really helped. I heard quite a few bad things about it before I gave birth so I was worried but honestly it was amazing. I ended up having a c section and even the doctors there were amazing. Only had a c section because my little girl was banging her head against my pelvis and they wasn’t able to help pull her out because of hurting her and her not being in the right position. I was there in September x

That's great to know and I'm really happy you got the care you deserve and I'm hopeful it will be the same when my times comes.

For my first pregnancy I had hoped for this also and like you due to reduced movements and an induction it wasn't possible xx

I gave birth at the maternity ward in QEQM and my whole experience was amazing. Can't fault them for anything, they did everything we needed x

I've had 3 babies at qeqm. First I started off in the mlu, then had to move to labour ward. The second I had in the mlu. The mlu is lovely, calming and was able to birth in the pool which was so calm compared to the labour wards. I had gas and air throughout which is all I wanted.
The labour ward in comparison was bright lights and more uncomfortable, but all positive experiences. If you can go for mlu though I'd definitely opt for it.

I gave birth in QEQM labour ward on Christmas day, ended in an emergency c section, but couldn't fault the care at all. I had Yvonne and Katie at the end of my birth journey and, as it was quiet, was given a side room after recovery. As my LG was the first born on Christmas morning, they put a Christmas hat on her and wrapped her in a Christmas blanket. X

I gave birth at QEQM 7 weeks ago and cannot fault the care I received. I started on MLU and was using the pool. I had a midwife and student midwife who were both brilliant. I had to go onto labour ward due to baby needing extra monitoring. The room was small but we could have lights down low. Unfortunately I ended up in theatre for forceps. Everyone was amazing from theatre team, recovery, infant feeding support and midwives on postnatal ward.

I actually work in medical negligence and dealt with a lot of the EKH cases and attended inquests. I was extremely anxious about giving birth but I have to say they have made huge improvements and it looks like they have finally implemented changes.

Go for a hospital tour. I think you can from 36 weeks. This was really useful just to see the difference between wards.

Good luck x

I gave birth at QEQM on the maternity unit, the two midwives I had one was called Cindy I’m pretty sure can’t remember the other ones name I couldn’t fault them. However the consultant on that day was c-section hungry by the time she got to me I was already her 4th and she was already shouting for a cat 1 emergency c-section. I was 8 and half centimetres at this point probably a 9 the midwives I had tried arguing it and said that I was more than perfectly capable of having a natural but the consultant wasn’t having none of it. I couldn’t fault my care there bar the consultant x

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Induction?

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?

Induction or c section?

As a last resort, would you rather be induced or have a planned c section?

Really not liking the thought of being induced from people’s experiences I’ve read!
