VBAC?

Follow then VBAC link on FB and get a doula and do a TON of research. It’s possible, and finding a provider who will let you is the most important. Unfortunately for me I attempted a VBAC with my 2nd and was unsuccessful. I would have loved to have that redemption personally.

I too had C section and would love to do VBAC for my second child especially for the flexibility it gives from Day 1 to pick up the baby whenever he/she is crying. Most doctors recommend to do C-sec for the next delivery if your first one is C sec. I think it’s really important to have a good provider who would support VBAC and sufficient time gap between pregnancies would give them the confidence.
Looking for more inputs from people who have had VBAC.

if you don’t mind me asking, what happened that made it unsuccessful? Did the baby’s heart rate drop? You totally don’t have to answer. I just really want any advice, tips or stories so I know what I could possibly be looking at.

Exactly! I want to be able to bend over and grab my baby after having it. I want to have that experience of a vaginal birth and would love to hear others experiences. I need some hope😅 we’re thinking of doing a four year gap from our first.

don’t want to scare you…my uterus ruptured, and I had a window. I was over 40 weeks and my baby’s elbow had created the hole in my uterus to the left of my scar and her elbow was plugging it up. It was around 3 cm in diameter, some women who have ruptures have much larger tears/holes in the uterus. The window is the scar stretched thin so that it’s see-through “a window” into the uterus. After joining a FB group with ruptures I was really lucky as some women did not have their baby survive. I do want to mention that a risk of rupture is 1%, so as long as you are at the hospital during labor you can have the doctors move quickly if they start to see the symptoms of a rupture. For any future children I’ll absolutely require a C-section at 36/37 weeks and never be able to give birth vaginally. I do have to say I did go with a different ob for my 2nd bc I went moved out of state and I am much happier with my 2nd scar. I still hate it with a passion

again it is a really small % that you could rupture. The group I’m in on FB is like less than 2,000 women. And there just isn’t a whole lot of research on women who have ruptures attempting a VBAC hence why the doctors recommend a planned section bc the risk of re rupture is 2-7% so to avoid that they don’t want you to get any labor symptoms. So that is like pretty much the worst case scenario. Again I don’t want to scare you.

Wow! That’s amazing, how was the first one? How long did you wait?

I only waited eight months, so my first VBAC was 17 months after my c-section. All my VBAC’s were close together and went smoothly each time.

I am so sorry you went through that. I didn’t even know this was a thing. I’m definitely going to join Facebook groups. I want to know more. Before I had a c section I didn’t even know anything about a c section so it came as a surprise and I was scared.

yep I feel ya! Being informed is so important. so I do feel like I did everything I could and honestly I don’t think anything I did made the rupture happen. My ob guesses it’s from my first scar wasn’t done well.

we are doing well! Thanks for asking! Even though it was my second section I healed much faster this time. Babe is doing great, already 3 months! The worst part was not being able to pick up my toddler. I could hold her on the couch but not pick her up. Just started doing that recently. I hope you do your research and get that VBAC! 🤞

I found a very supportive provider who never once tried to convince me to go for a repeat c-section. I would say that is the most important thing - find a provider who supports your decision to VBAC.

I had a vbac and I got pregnant 10 months pp all of my doctors were fully open to it as long as pregnancy went good which it did. I would say wait longer if you can just to give yourself more time to heal. But what I tell people is if you want a vbac at least wait 9/10 months

if you’re wanting to do a 4 year age gap that should be plenty of time to be able to have a vbac. Definitely find a doctor that’s willing to do it and as long as everything is looking good no complications or potential Breech baby you should be good!

oh wow that is scary I’m glad everything went okay after that. How long after your c section did you get pregnant with the next?

I got pregnant one year and 4 months after my first section. I knew the 18 month gap between deliveries was important and wanted to give myself a bit more time. We didn’t start trying until after my first babe turned 1.

My first was emergency C section due to the synthetic Oxytocin causing his heart rate to drop and not recover well..

October 30th I had a successful VBAC! I got right on hiring a Doula and having that support for myself and my husband was day and night difference for us mentally!

I never went into the whole experience with the fear of uterine rupture because I knew if I did, it would consume me. I knew it was a possibility and I always communicated that it was still a possibility to have another C-section too but I didn’t let fear drive me. I had an even bigger baby compared to my first and I was able to push him out all natural and unmedicated; he was 9lbs 4 oz! Being mentally prepared is the biggest thing I would say 🩷
