Heartbeat

I’m also unsure of this! I’ve had two scans (one being 12wks) and not heard it yet. I also had a private scan and didn’t hear it at that one either (11wks). A few people have said at your 16 week appointment, midwife will normally check to hear Heartbeat. X

ahhh okay. I thought it’d be at the dating scan at 12 weeks 🥲😔 so gutted! Why don’t they check it, I don’t understand! 16 weeks seems like ages away!

Not every trust will check at 16 weeks as it can be hit or miss if they can find it and don’t want to give unnecessary anxiety. Sometime you have to wait until later unless you go private. I’m at 15+5, have had several scans (private and NHS) and still not heard it and not expecting to at my 16 week appointment either!

I haven’t heard it as yet - but my midwife said we would hear the heartbeat at the 16-week appointment so hopefully soon!

I heard the heartbeat at my 12 week NHS appointment :)

I went for an early pregnancy scan as I had a scare around 8 weeks, they found the heartbeat and I have the measurements on scan for it but I never heard it. My sister was able to hear my nephew's at 16 weeks, sometimes you just have to ask if it's possible to hear it, most of the sonographers understand the mothers just want peace of mind.

I didn't hear it at the 12 week scan but I could see it beating away which was amazing. My midwife said I will be able to hear it at the 16 week appointment

I got to hear our baby’s heartbeat at a private scan at 10 weeks. It was definitely worth it getting to hear a strong healthy heartbeat xx

You don’t hear it on early private scans it’s not safe to listen that early they’ve only shown me it and I have 4 at different places. After 12 weeks is safe x

yes it says on my 16 week appointment letter that midwife will listen for heartbeat x

I had a private one at 10 weeks and heard it then. Just had my NHS one at 13 weeks and private was so much better. We got videos and to hear the heartbeat.

ohh okay. Sorry if this is dumb lol but if you’re on your partners health insurance, are things like ultrasounds etc free or do you have to pay for them? 🫢.
Ahhh that’s a bit of a shame. I understand the not finding it and anxiety aspect but wish they tried regardless and if they found it, what an amazing experience for the parents 🥹
