Your OB will just have you take a course or valtrex like a week or so before your due date!

I heard they’ll have you do what Haley said or they’ll have you do a c section so they don’t risk it.

I have HSV2 and just gave birth vaginally a couple weeks ago. At 36 weeks you’ll start taking valcyclovir 2-3x a day, do not stop taking them after you give birth. They’ll give them to you in the hospital but take your own just in case they won’t give you any more after you give birth. I had an outbreak after I gave birth the absolute worst I’ve ever had and I know other women who had vaginal births and also had outbreaks after. It didn’t affect my baby at all. Your baby isn’t going to be born with it unless they have contact with an outbreak during labor, but they will check for an outbreak both outside and with a speculum inside. If you’re having an outbreak you’ll need a c section because of the risks of baby coming in contact with the outbreak, it can be really serious. Valtrex treats and helps prevent outbreaks so if you keep up on that you’re unlikely to have an outbreak before labor. The major stress and trauma of birth is what caused the outbreak afterwards.

im currently on valtrex and i have to take it up until then he’s born just because i was having so many outbreaks. Just nervous about possibly vaginally delivering

i have a close friend that has it & she had taken the meds around 36 weeks to make sure she had no outbreak & was able to deliver vaginally . If you do have an outbreak tho they will give you a c section

okay this makes me a little less worried I just don’t want him to suffer long term because of past decisions. Thanks for sharing with me. Definitely reassures me knowing you had a safe delivery.

My bestfriend has it and delivered vaginally. She didn't have an outbreak at the time so there were no issues.

I had it with my child and i still had him vaginally it didn't affect my ability to do so they check for inner and outer lessions prior if its on your chart. I was on suppression drugs from second trimester through the rest of my pregnancy.

thanks for giving me the reassurance. I want to push I just want to make sure he’s protected. I am on medicine though
