I’m 40 weeks and 1 day today and the consultant has booked me an appointment for a sweep (and then an induction on Monday), I’m soooo unconvinced about having a sweep, anyone any thoughts based on experience?

With my first I had a sweep and went into active labour before I was due to be induced. My second arrived on his own on his due date.
Have heard of people having to have multiple sweeps though.

I know so many women who have had sweeps and it’s always been 50/50 with some going into labour straight away and sweeps not making a difference for others. My friend went into labour 2 days after her second sweep but the first one didn’t do anything so I think it completely depends on the individual. I wonder if there are any statistics/research out there to suggest how many people go into labour after a sweep? X

I had a sweep with my two and they both came within 24 hours.. they hurt if you're only 1cm dilated though 🥹 but they offer gas and air for the pain if needed. 🥰

@Lauren the midwife told me it is 20% first time effective x

I've had two sweeps now and couldn't have them done as I wasn't dilated enough both times, was really hoping for them to work as I'm booked for an induction on the 10th which I'd rather not have but it's that or a c section to get little man out. He's just too comfy 😅
