Just been to my 39 week midwife appointment and baby boy hasn’t moved loads since yesterday. I have had the odd elbow or poke but not huge movements like he normally does in the morning and before bed. So my midwife has called triage and got me to go in to be monitored.
Now heartbeat and that is all fine when she listened in, but why do they ask us to go in for reduced movement? I get no movement at all is concerning and urgent but do they think maybe baby is sick if they’re not as active as normal?

I think they just want to make sure baby isn't stressed, baby's heart rate is all good etc

So I think nearing the end they are more concerned because if there are issues they can get them out as they are ‘full term’ from 37 weeks but also reduced movement can sometimes be a sign of baby being in distress (cord wrapped around neck etc), poorly or even the placenta starting to fail. It’s usually nothing to worry about but on the occasion it is then they have to act quickly and we know our bodies/babies best x

As they've said above slowing reduced movement can be an indication of fetal distress - they're trying to hold onto their energy to keep themselves going. The community midwife listening to the heartbeat just tells them there is one but monitoring with a CTG gives them a much more accurate picture of babies wellbeing.
