My LO has had issues with reflux since 2 weeks old. We were initially told to trial hydrolysed formula as it was suspected CMPA although I do not believe that it is and in any event, despite the formula change, she still had horrendous reflux.
GP gave us gaviscon which barely touched the sides and long story short we are not giving Omeprazole once a day. The dose given is accurate for her weight having only just had her weighed and increased the dose.
Despite the omeprazole, there are at least 1/2 feeds a day where LO screams in agony and cannot take a feed. Usually the early afternoon and the early evening. When she is screaming I can hear gulping which is the reflux and whenever she tries to take some of the bottle I can hear her stomach gurgling? Like the milk hitting her stomach is making it churn and she screams straight after.
Does anyone have any advice on where to go with this? Do I introduce gaviscon again as well as the omeprazole? Should I note use the prep machine for her bottles?
Also, she has 3-6 dirty nappies a day. This cannot be normal?

With the exception of the quantity of dirty nappies I’m right where you are. Had the same CMPA diagnosis and still right where we started and baby is now 12 weeks old. It’s horrible. Don’t have any advice just some solidarity 💞

Have you considered taking her to an osteopath? it helped my daughter (now nearly 1) significantly. She had silent reflux. Reflux is usually caused by something else and gaviscon and omeprozle just mask that. (No shade intended here and not a criticism of doing that by daughter is still on omeprozole). I would recommend trying to identify what is causing it. I found little difference using or not using the prep machine. There’s some theories that it causes more bubbles though

My lg had omeprazol & gaviscon as her reflux was bad (especially on prescription milk for cmpa)
Prescription formula has probiotics in it that your child is intended to get when having this type of formula.
Unlike preparation of normal formula , you must not use a hot shot of water as this kills the probiotics. So I’d avoid using the pre machine
hi! Thanks for your reply. We took her to an osteopath who did some work with her and said that her diaphragm was quite high but recently said she didn’t need to see her anymore as she had massively improved so I cannot work out why she has regressed. What types of reasons could there be that she has the reflux? Do you know any other avenues I can explore to get to the root cause?

ah ok, there’s a lady called the baby reflux lady who does a few different posts on Instagram and stuff which helped us research it and she suggests different causes. Introducing a probiotic helped my daughter she’s on one called optibac. The reflux lady I found quite helpful. Hopefully it helps you too.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this it really is horrible. We got passed around doctors too and I also got to the same thing where I didn’t really leave the house during the times she needed to feed as I couldn’t feed my daughter in public. Weaning made it worse for my daughter initially but then it got significantly better. She now has milk normally and I actually cried the first time I could feed her in public as it felt so freeing. I know all babies are different but hang on in there. My daughter is 1 next week and her symptoms have largely completely gone. I’m in the process of weaning her off omeprozole currently.

i completely agree i felt like that too it is hard to understand unless you live with it i think. And feeding my daughter felt like a full time job most of the time and it stressed me out so much. I remember one time trying to feed her and she was refusing and twisting and turning she hadn’t fed for hours and my in laws where saying to me she’s just not hungry. When I knew full well she was but couldn’t eat! Everyone used to also say to me she’ll feed when she’s hungry too and it drove me insane. I was advised to wean early but I didn’t, weaning wasn’t a magic solution for us immediately but in the end it helped we found some foods really triggered her symptoms (apple, potato, and tomatoes to name a few). But in time I’ve been slowly able to re-introduce them. As I say all babies are different so not meaning to stress you about weaning but I wasn’t expecting it to cause issues so it might be a useful heads up. Happy to chat if you ever want to!

exactly the same here! Neocate + omeprazole. Almost on the max dose we’re building up currently. My boy will be 13 weeks on Tues and things aren’t getting any better. I’m going to give the omeprazole until he’s 16 weeks and if no improvement we’ll stop. He’s just had a 40% tongue tie cut which was missed by 3 people through NHS and only picked up when we went privately. I’m starting to get anxious feeding in public because since his 8 week jabs he screams all the way through. Nobody gets it unless they’ve experienced it. It’s shit and has totally ruined the whole experience 🙃 which is even worse as he’s our IVF baby we waited 4 years for! What annoys me the most is the fact absolutely nobody that’s meant to help you - midwives, HV, GPs, paediatricians etc will help find the route cause, always fobbed off with letting them “grow out of it”.
You’re not alone and so many people are going through the same/have done 🩵 xx

soo frustrating 😞 can you get the TT recut? Gaviscon started us on a horrible CMPA journey as it gave him severe constipation and ended with blood in his poo! I hate the stuff 😂 fingers crossed we both get somewhere very soon 🤞🏼🤞🏼 xxx
