Formula prep methods

We use the nuby rapid cool, but using the hot shot method
Measure the water in the bottle as normal first, tip 30ml ish into the cap (we use mam) then tip the rest of the water in the nuby and start to cool it.
While that's cooling, tip the water from the cap into the bottle again, add scoops of formula into the bottle and swirl until it's all dissolved
Once nuby is ready, pour into the bottle and swirl again. It's a little warmer, but totally fine for baby

Doing it this way means you don't need to sterilise the nuby as it's only had water. I do still sterilise it, but only once every few days

that sounds like a game changer! I’ll definitely try that. Anything to make the nights easier 😅

We did use a flask upstairs for hot water, but found it didn't stay hot enough all night
Ended up buying a cheap kettle which I have on my bedside table and I just reach over to turn it on when she cries for a feed (and wake myself up a bit!!)while my partner either changes or soothes her while I make the bottle, it seems like the easiest method for us 😊

We make the bottle fresh and then put it in a jug of cold water in the fridge for 5-10 mins. We change her before feeding so usually by the time we’ve changed her the bottle’s ready 🙂
If we’re desperate we always have a flask of cold sterilised water and do the hot shot method

genius! Do you use MAM bottles by chance (with the little air holes at the bottom)? I’m assuming if the formula can’t escape out of them water couldn’t get in. I’ll experiment next time I was one up and see!

yes we do! No water gets into the actual bottle but it does sit in the joint between the bottom section and the body, so just put the cap on and tip it upside down before you feed her so it doesn’t drip all over her 😅

Make the amount of bottles she has a night before bed and put them in fridge as you can keep it in fridge for 24hrs , and just warm the bottle up in jug of boiling water for 5 minutes and good to go , or if she’s screaming just give it cold 🤷🏽‍♀️

We have a tommee tippee prep machine- we got second hand. It's well worth it if you can pick one up from Facebook marketplace / vinted / ebay. Its amazing. My husband used to work in a nursery and said that it's a game changer

We use the fridge method with Kendamil for our 8 week old.
Prep the bottles, they last 24h in the fridge so we’ve constantly got at least 3 in the fridge at one time ready to go.
We just put her bottle in the microwave for ten seconds to take the chill off and she has it like that. Works wonders! No faffing with kettles and waiting around ..

I prep the bottles every 12 hours, grab one from the fridge and warm in the Tommie tippie warmer.

With my first I made 6 bottles in the morning and put in fridge, used bottle warmer to take the cold edge off when he needed one.

Prep machine was a game changer . I don’t like this idea anymore of warming and cooling and messing with milk temps.

With RapidCool use the hot shot method. So my 6wo is on 150ml Kendamil feed. We poor 150ml boiling water straight from kettle into her milk bottle. Then pour out 125ml of that into the RapidCool. Add the powder to the remaining 25ml and mix as you would do normally making sure all powder dissolves. Then when RapidCool goes green add that back in. I generally find that it’s pretty much perfect temp or just run it under tap for 20 secs.
Also note that RapidCool always shows green straight away…give it 10 secs and it will go amber…then wait for it to go green again.

We also pre make her night feeds the traditional way without RapidCool and warm in a jug of hot water. Note this needs to be done carefully with feeds cooled and into fridge within 1hr. Fridge should be 5 degrees or less.

I use cool boiled water in a prep machine which I have next to bed… the prep machine keeps it at the right temp for his bottles but the boiled water obviously kills all bacteria before he drinks it x
